I've been watching this post for a few days, but now its my turn to
ask a question. I've got a chance to purchase a Mitutoyo Digimatic
DRO System the 13" x 30" like the one that was on EBAY recently.
Anyone have any feelings on this unit? Looks like the accuracy is
moderatly good for a Home Shop at .002"/ft. Do I need a higher
accuracy than this? I'm looking at paying 600 for one brand new and
still under warranty. Are the slides of the same quality as the other
Mitutoyo encoders?

Any advice is appreciated.

Hi Ryan,

I have had one mounted on my Bridgeport for almost 3 years. It has been
trouble free and is a pleasure to use. When I set it up, I compared the
display with the handwheel dials and they corresponded exactly over several
inches. I did check it against a mike over a piece of stock with an edge
finder and saw no significant error. For my purposes it is plenty accurate,
however I rarely work on anything over 6" long. IMHO it is the most useful
accessory you can put on a mill. BTW, Penn Tool has them on sale now for
$640. Good luck.
