"The ruling class doesn't care about public safety. Having made it
very difficult for States and localities to police themselves, having
left ordinary citizens with no choice but to protect themselves as
best they can, they now try to take our guns away. In fact they blame
us and our guns for crime. This is so wrong that it cannot be an
honest mistake."

The one you poke with a sharp stick when it tries to get out of its
moldy cardboard cage, out behind the shop. ;-)

He sure didn't have one of those when I visited him... (what, 4 years
ago?) I would have remembered the treat of being able to poke it.

Oh...that got dozed deep years ago. Along with several of its
friends. There is a most interesting stretch of (insert desert land
of your choice) that in a century or so..will be one of the most
fertile areas in the desert.

Got me thinking, is there such a thing as a left-handed lathe? (nice
score!)

That lathe looks like it was used very gently by a little old lady once
a month for about an hour!

Actually...yes.

Notice the positions of the controls on the slide in this photo:

https://picasaweb.google.com/104042282269066802602/NewClausing#5876591082846735330

Now look at the position of the same controls on the English version

The speed controls have been used..but the slide and ways are virginal
<G>

The threading gear box was never used nor was the half nut, power feet
worm etc etc.

That CNC unit that they bolted to the ways was never moved and only
the slide on the top of it moved the tools.

So the only wear is on the spindle bearings and a couple of the
headstock gears.

I think I did ok here..for a change.

About 10 yrs ago..I snagged a Cadillac tracer in good running
condition and gave it to a friend of mine, who already had 3 of
them..stored up on his myrid pallat racks...so when I mentioned that
Id gotten this lathe..he said he would dig the one Id given him back
off the racks, we could set it up on one of his machines to make sure
it works..and then I could take it home to put on this. I think
however..that that tracer is going to go on the Clausing 1500..and
this little girl is going to become my main lathe. The HLV-H...Im not
sure what to do with it as of yet. Its a marvelous lathe...and it is
delightful to use.....but...it needs the gear box bearings replaced
and its only at most...19" between centers. And desperately needs a
coat of paint.

The bearings for the threading gearbox are going to cost at least
$200 probably much more...so it may simply be moved and sprayed down
and then securely wrapped until I have the money to do a gearbox
rebearing job.

Shrug

No one here wants the round top Clausing 13x36? If not..it goes on
Craigslist then.

I've seen/run a number of Chinese made lathes that had the carriage
hand wheel on the right side. Quite awkward if you grew up using a
U.S. made machine with the hand wheel on the left :-)

Much worse. Think of wet bear, that was just sprayed by a skunk.

On the 'plus' side, very few people will steal it because of the
stench.
