Another day, another installment in the gummer saga. Supposedly
restricted to posting for a week while waiting for vehicle repairs,
now he says he had access to a vehicle all along. Classic deadbeat
family, too broke to pay bills, but always manages to have stuff they
shouldn't be able to afford.

It's hard to know if he couldn't do the repairs, or was too lazy to do
them, or both. But since he claims to have a work ethic and "the

Sounds like it was running too badly to drive, so he called in a
mechanic who hauled it off and diagnosed a bad valve. That's the kind
of repair that I and most of my friends learned to do in our teens. I
can understand that lots of people can't do their own repairs, or
don't want to. But gummer is dead broke and was bragging only a couple
of weeks ago that he had a "knack" for mechanical things. Now it turns
out that uber-survivalist-gummy's idea of keeping his mad max buggy
running after TEOTWAWKI is to dial AAA, just like everybody's granny.

Once a Republican is on the ticket in 2010, the Republicans will have their

The truth is we don't know if anything Gummer says is true. But since
he's been caught lying numerous times already you have to be a pretty
naive to believe anything he says. Some of these guys here act like he'd
be someone you would want in your foxhole. Really? What makes them think
he's telling them the truth when he says he's some kind of warrior? I've
found that when people lie to you about things to make themselves sound
better than they really are you can't believe anything they say. Those
guys who believe the crap Gummer says are truly rubes and hayseeds.

Burned all the exhaust valves. I dont do vehicle work very well. Not
that I cant..but I hate it. I do ok with motorcycles, machinery,
firearms, building boats..shrug...the usual stuff.

Ive rebuilt 2 engines in my life. Both ran ok when I sold them..but I
hated every fucking minute of the work. Ive got something of an
aversion to working on motor vehicles. I dont like peanut butter, or
liver either.

Buddy of mine runs a motor valve/head etc shop. Ive been setting up his
shop, doing his electrical, getting his grinders trued etc etc (for
free). He offered to do the new seats, valves ( I paid for the valves
and gasket set...$179) for free... and a new mechanic friend of both
of ours offered to do the take down and reassembly for $350.

So I agreed. Id rather pay $350 and let someone else do that work, than
me. Shrug. The gaskets/valves would have cost me the same no matter
what. 2 regular shops quoted me $850+ and 900+ for the work. I figure
Im at least $350 ahead of the game...since Ill have $529 in it for parts
and labor.

I did ok this week, so will be picking up the truck Saturday sometime
and paying the guy cash. Now with luck..there wont be a 2 week down
time in service calls. Though it was nice driving the exs Saturn
around..34.7 mpg...beat the shit out of the 16mpg I was getting with the
Ranger...though..I didnt have all the tools I needed so had to borrow a
few. I have box end wrenches in my truck up to 1.5"...but seldom need
them. This week...shrug..needed them. Was able to borrow them however.

Could I have done the take down of my truck? Probably. Did I want to?
Absolutely fucking nowayJose. Id rather have taken a beating.
Seriously.

Shrug..I hate working on engines that have computers necessary to make
them go. Last one I did a full rebuild on was a 1968 Chevy inline 6.
That wasnt bad. Shrug. Not a 2001 Ford 3.0 V-6 with fuel injection yada
yada....

Sue me. Now if you want me to rebuild your Hardinge HLV-H..or your
Bridgeport..or do a full accuracy job on your M1A...give me a call.

Burned all the exhaust valves. I dont do vehicle work very
well. Not
that I cant..but I hate it. I do ok with motorcycles,
machinery,
firearms, building boats..shrug...the usual stuff.

CY: Wow, that's a shame. How did the valves get burnt out?
Put diesel fuel in by mistake?

Ive rebuilt 2 engines in my life. Both ran ok when I sold
them..but I
hated every fucking minute of the work. Ive got something
of an
aversion to working on motor vehicles. I dont like peanut
butter, or
liver either.

CY: I hear you. People have different interests and talents
and such. Which is why money was invented. You do what you
do well, and someone else does your engine rebuild.

Buddy of mine runs a motor valve/head etc shop. Ive been
setting up his
shop, doing his electrical, getting his grinders trued etc
etc (for
free). He offered to do the new seats, valves ( I paid for
the valves
and gasket set...$179) for free... and a new mechanic
friend of both
of ours offered to do the take down and reassembly for $350.

CY: That does sound reasonable. Would that be cheaper than
an engine out of a wrecking yard? On the other hand, a used
engine may also have burnt out valves.

So I agreed. Id rather pay $350 and let someone else do
that work, than
me. Shrug. The gaskets/valves would have cost me the same
no matter
what. 2 regular shops quoted me $850+ and 900+ for the
work. I figure
Im at least $350 ahead of the game...since Ill have $529 in
it for parts
and labor.

CY: Use the money to buy flashlights (grin).

I did ok this week, so will be picking up the truck Saturday
sometime
and paying the guy cash. Now with luck..there wont be a 2
week down
time in service calls. Though it was nice driving the exs
Saturn
around..34.7 mpg...beat the shit out of the 16mpg I was
getting with the
Ranger...

CY: Borrow the Saturn for longer trips?

though..I didnt have all the tools I needed so had to borrow
a
few. I have box end wrenches in my truck up to 1.5"...but
seldom need
them. This week...shrug..needed them. Was able to borrow
them however.

CY: I think you've discovered something. Might be able to
offer customers a discount if they provide some of the
tools. On the other hand, sometimes jobs are a lot faster
and easier if you use your own tools, Know where everything
is.

Could I have done the take down of my truck? Probably. Did
I want to?
Absolutely fucking nowayJose. Id rather have taken a
beating.
Seriously.

Shrug..I hate working on engines that have computers
necessary to make
them go. Last one I did a full rebuild on was a 1968 Chevy
inline 6.
That wasnt bad. Shrug. Not a 2001 Ford 3.0 V-6 with fuel
injection yada
yada....

Sue me.

CY: You will soon be getting a letter from my attorneys.
Publishers, Clearinghouse, and McMahon. Has a picture of my
grey haired attorney on the outside of the envelope. Be sure
to open and fill out the contents, it's a legal document.

Now if you want me to rebuild your Hardinge HLV-H..or your
Bridgeport..or do a full accuracy job on your M1A...give me
a call.

CY: Will keep you in mind if I buy a Harding or Bridgeport.

Lots of us hate working on various things, but we do it to get ahead
or to stay afloat. In this case, instead of bearing down when you
needed to, you spent a couple weeks sitting on your ass posting silly
excuses about how you were broke because you had no work, when in
truth there was a job that paid $350 right outside your door! The
irony is that you keep trying to convince readers that after decades
of such decisions, some motivation and skill will finally come to
you... if TEOTWAWKI happens! What a joke.

Me, too. I can change a crank, or do a valve job, or change a timing chain,
and lots of other stuff, but I just hate it. I know it and understand it,
but I just hate it, then having that smell on my hands for weeks. I take

The difference being, Steve, that you don't bitch every day about not
having money to buy food. You don't have half a million dollars in
debt. You are not talking about declaring bankruptcy. You can afford
to pay someone to fix your vehicle.

Gunner is, by his own declaration, choosing between food and
medication. He is considering bankruptcy. He has bills he will NEVER
pay. He knows how to fix his truck, and yet he doesn't feel like it.
Some survivalist. You REALLY want to have the likes of his lazy ass in

gummer's lying and leeching, and gummer doesn't care that steve is a
blatant racist. It's hilarious to watch prima donna "survivalists" sit
