Sandblasted Glass

Hi,
I don't want to sound real stupid at a glass shop, so I would like to ask if
one can buy a piece of sandblasted glass (flat without any design) from a glass
supplier (like Henderson glass), or does it have to be custom ordered?
And is there a standard for the coarseness?

Ask for frosted glass at any regular glazier(glass&mirror) and you will have
it! Also probably available from local stained glass supplier if they carry
textured glass. In my shop it goes for about 2.50/sq. ft. in 4ft by 4ft.

I have never seen sudh a thing, but others may have. This looks like a
job for superman. Oops, I mean a local stained glass artist. Most of
us have blasting outfits, and I assume that most of us would blast your
glass for a reasonable price. I probably would do it at no charge if I
were already going to do another piece and you would wait until I could
do it with other pieces. If you can't find an artist to do it, go to a
window glass shop. They may be the more likely to do blasting than a
hobby glass shop.

The frosted glass that you get from the glass retailer has been blasted
by a machine that does it evenly. It should be considerably cheaper and
more consistent than a hand made version. You may not have a choice of
grit sizes. Monument shops often have the automatic blasting machine.
Glass is generally blasted with finer grit than granite, so you may have
to supply some grit if you do it there.

Is the frosted glass the same as etched glass or nonglare glass? I found that
the standard nonglare glass is too fine for me, and I need something slightly
coarser.

Ask for "DS ground" and most residential/ commercial glaziers will know what
you are talking about.
