Can any one out there who does waterbased glass & tile painting on tiles
tell me what you use as a high gloss varnish on top of the tiles.

There is a special high gloss medium (with an enamel-like surface) by Golden
Acrylic that will adhere to many types of surfaces, but I'm not sure you can
use it as varnish. Regular gloss medium by Golden or Liquitex will not dull
the colors. Also, following the "fat over lean" formula, you could safely
spray paint clear gloss enamel over the water based painting. After about 3
days of curing, either acrylic or oil based enamel becomes quite hard, but
still not totally impervious to scratches and scuffs. In fact, paint that
forms a film (whether oil or water based) will always be a bit delicate.
Enamel is the more durable of the two.

Dianne

Still learning myself, but I wonder why you wouldn't fuse the finished piece or
why you would use glass paint if you were not going to fuse it?

Artist materials manufacturers make paints that can be applied to glass,
metal, ceramic, etc., so hobbyists can create their own designs with limited
tools, budget and space. The materials are usually nontoxic and are easy to
clean up, so they can be used at home.

Plus, some of us just like to work in mixed media! :P
