Glass painting

Hi, my girl friend has just tried her hand at painting glass. She
was a little dissapointed in the results. She used a commercial
glass painting kit, which included some lead piping stuff in
a tube and some paints.

Problems.
1. Piping seemed not to 'fix' to the glass too well.
2. The paints went on but subsequent 'working' seemed to
pull off the previously applied paint (both wet and dried)
3. The paints seemed not to become waterproof after drying.

Are these problems a result of using a beginners kit?
Would she get better result from professional materials?
(A bit obvious really!)
How could I ensure that the next time she has a go, things
would turn out better?

What you have there is a toy glass painting outfit, and should not be
taken too seriously. You can try "professional" outfits, available in
the likes of B&Q, or Homebase. You should be aware that unless the
"paints" are fired onto the glass, the colour will not be permanent. No
matter what the claims on the box.

Try cleaning the areas to be painted and leaded with a pure solvent (i e 90% proof
surgical spirits). This should help with adhesion.
