Hi!
I'm new to the newsgroup thing, so please excuse any of my ignorance if any!
Now, onto my problem that i hope some of you creative crafty peoples can
help me out with! Due to major lack of funding for xmas gifts this year
(buying a house kills you!) :o), i decided to find the 'meaning of the
season' and make gifts for friends and family. I spent many many hours
slaving over wine goblets and champange flutes handpainting them with
snowmen and santas and gingerbread people. My problem, I do a lot of
stencilling on walls and fabric and the only paint I had around was acrlyic
paint which under NORMAL circumstances doesn't come off of ANYTHING! Well,
i painted, dried, baked in oven to 'set the paint' and then gave as gifts
... my mother went to wash the dust off and ended up washing off the
snowmen! Is there anything i did wrong? Is there any particular type paint
i should have used? Ok ... problem no. 2 ... i used this other stuff called
gallery glass thinking i could use that with no problems and now my flowers
on the wine goblets look like stained glass (which i'm assuming is an
acquired taste). Anyway, here's hoping someone can help me out ... if it's
at all possible, if you post a reply, could you also cc to my fast net
account! Thanks to anyone and everyone who can help out! Happy Ho-Ho
Season!

Gabi,
I am in the process of starting a craft business, and I paint glass- mostly
drinking glasses, wine, juice, etc. bowls and vases. I used the Gallery glass
paint( I liked the stained glass effect) in the beginning and then switched to
Perm Enamel made by Delta CeramDecor. This paint claims to be dishwasher safe,
and they have a glaze also, that I even went back and painted over my Gallery
Glass painted items with to try to make them more permanent. I have washed the
PermEnamel by hand but not in the dishwasher yet. They survived handwashing
unscathed. This paint does not need to be baked, just to air-dry. The colors are
beautiful, they even have "pearled" colors that come out shimmery, like one
called "raspberry sherbert".
My suggestion is that you try these, but as for the ones you've already
done, I'm not sure what to tell you. You could "borrow" your Xmas gifts back and
repaint, I suppose, or tell people only to wipe gently to remove dust with a dry
cloth. I include a little tag with my work that says they are not dishwasher
safe. Hope this helps, and Happy Holidays!!

Gabbi,
The non fired products mentioned in the posts in reply to your inquiry
about painting on glass are good products if you do not have access to a
kiln to fire true glass colors on your items. If you do have a kiln or
a ceramic studio with a kiln which will fire for you Mayco Colors, Inc.
http://www.Maycocolors.com has a new line of 12 glass colors drsigned
to be applied to glassware and fired to cone 021 to permanently fuse the
colors to the glass. They also sell a line of glassware for use with
these colors. The colors are called the Images glass paint colors and I
do not remember the name of the glassware line if it even has one.
These are so new that I have not seen them on their web site yet so you
might have to e-mail them for information about the line of colors and
glassware at in...@maycocolors.com.
Best wishes,
Tom in Texas

Hi Gabi, I do alot of painting on glass and tiles, I am completly satisfied
with Pebeo Brand paints...I do mosaics (using Porcelaine, they do make
other glass paints) and these stand up to the torture test of cutting,
breaking grouting etc...also 100% safe for food (not all are) and
dishwasher safe...(plus a lot more)...I buy mine thru Pearl Paints at a
very good discount (2.95 vs 4.95) compared to my local retailer...

Pebeo has a website I am sure you can easily find with a search...or thru
hgtv (below) where I first saw them demonstrated.
