Stained Glass and similar Groups ?

rec.crafts.glass where those discussions take place ? If so, I'm
inclined to agree with "Kalera" and his "Good Lord" posting.....

secondly "Miss Kalera's" post was right on the money as I too am
frustrated by the lack of posting over the last year or so... Too bad
really. I'd really like to see links to group members works or 'works

Why don't you start? I haven't seen much of your name on here, post
something relevant? and since this is NOT a binaries group, post a link to
your work, let's see what you are up to. Do you earn a living at this or is
it "just for fun"?

I have found in the past, that summer is when folks go outside and do
something else besides glass. I know I try to. as far as "the past year"
goes, there have been plenty of postings on here, but the "business" of
stained glass has been in decline for well over that, the wholesalers/
distributors/ manufacturers have seen it, and the retailers most of all.
As age creeps into the picture, a whole new generation is exposed to the
craft and art scene and with the advent of the computer, more avenues of
expression are there that were not there 20 years ago. Hence, differences
of passion in the arts. different exposures.
OK, that started the topic, run with it......

Well, I went to your computer's web server, and got
the "It Works!" page, but no amount of guesswork could
get me to your home directory, much less to that
specific photo. Since you're running Debian, I'd guess
you need to put the photo somewhere under
/var/www/apache2-default/ if you want to make it
publicly available.
If you were trying to attach it, note that this is
not a binary group; photos are prohibited here, and
will be stripped off by most news servers.

then this group is not supposed to be "dead" or dormant, or slow. We, those
with nothing to post but should anyway, should be ready and at your beck and
call when our knowledge is needed for something that you are "knew" at?
Post the question you might have and it will be answered, until then
quitcherbitchin about nothing or you won't be taken seriously when you do
want to know something new. or at least, that is my thoughts on the matter.

hours each day to earn a living with my stained glass and the market
for that is terribly minute here in South Africa .

Fortunately the reaction lines were not badly disturbed.
Only I missed lines between dense white and tomato red, as there was a
clear layer between.

I simply stated (as others have..) this "Group" is pretty "Dead" for a
medium that encompasses a wide variety of products, hobbies and
Crafts. I do find it quite strange that it is so quiet, but then
again, with "Quiff's" like you jumping down people's throat's, it's no
wonder this group is so quiet.

Good Stuff there Daniel... I especially like the photo frames (ex-
picture framer myself..) and the Glass Panels. The "Gifts" section
was pretty amazing as well. That glass is unbelievably textured and
richly colored ! That stuff would cost a 'small fortune' up here....

Well that is interesting. I noticed that the COE is important when
making beads and glass crafts but had no idea it didn't really matter
for Kiln Fired Glass... I suppose it makes sense, seeing as how there
isn't that critical exposure to fluctuating temperatures. Since I
don't have a Kiln yet, I can't try it but look forward to attempting
some projects in the future!

I didn't say COE didn't matter. I use both 90, 96 and float, but never
together. I use a full fusing temp of 1480 for 90 and 96. When I want
smooth I get it regardless of COE. I seldom want smooth because most of
my pieces are sandblasted and/or coldworked after firing.

once you understand the basics of glass chemistry, which they provide
more concisely than any resource before ever has (unless I have missed
some, which is of course easily possible) you will have an excellent
basis for understanding and predicting color reactions in the kiln,
furnace, or torch.
