Just an FYI: I stumbled on 6 gal SS stock pots
at the local Costco today for $40. I haven't seen
anything of that size there before.

While I'm perfectly happy with my aluminum 5.5 gal pot,
I must admit to suffering pot envy. While it may not
support a full 5 gal boil, its mighty close.

Just an FYI, don't know if your local Costco
has it in stock..

I think 7.5 is sort of a minimum for a 5 gal boil because you don't
exactly start with 5 gal.

I would agree. A 6 gallon pot is sort of an awkward size. It's more than
you need for a partial boil, but not quite big enough for a full boil. It's
not a bad deal though if someone can use one.

I went right out and bought it after reading the original post.

I continue to do partial boils, but I saw it as an economical way to upgrade
from 5 gal aluminum pot.

A 6 gallon pot may not be big enough to go to a full 5 gallon boil, but
would work good for smaller size batches. And partial boilers could boil
a larger portion of the batch size.

This is timely, as I'm expecting my first brewpot to arrive via UPS any
day now - it's a 6 gallon aluminum pot.

Does anyone have experience with 6 gallon pots? How much of a 5 gallon
batch could I reasonably expect to boil in a 6 gallon pot?

I strongly suspect I'll be mostly doing smaller batches once I get into
it, so I opted for the smaller (and cheaper) vessel.

Thanks,

-Andy

I boil 3 gallon batches in a 5 gallon pot, so you could probably do
around 4 in a 6 gallon one.
