They've been doing a lot of research about cats and color near here at
Princeton University. All I know is I used to have a large orange cat
who thought it was great fun to get on the bed when I was making it.
One of my sets of sheets had individual flowers, encased in blocks,
sort of like a quilt. Most of the flowers were pastel, but several of
them were a dark purple color. He always went to the dark purple color
and stroked it, almost like he could see that one and not the others.
Maybe he just liked purple, lol.

A very long time ago (1969) I wrote a college paper about color
vision in non-primate mammals. It was pretty short! It seemed to
me at the time that the behavioral techniques for "asking" the
animals what they could see weren't adequate to the task. I'm glad
that the topic is being researched more extensively now.
