Tink,
So...when you get your energy back, please tell us how the show went? How
were sales? Cutomer reaction? Would you do that show again?
Hope you did well. I held good thoughts for you.

Hey Patti!

Well, it was definitely an experience! LOL! I had a blast, and I think I did
really well, considering the venue.

Jeanne was there, as was Prairieson. Cosmo was, too. I have some pics to
post soon. Jeanne can give you her take on the show/venue, but here's mine.

The show was set up like a garage sale, pretty much, in someone's back yard.
This is a HUGE festival weekend in Toledo's Old West End. The OWE is the
largest collection of Victorian and Arts & Crafts homes east of the
Mississippi. The festival includes a true juried art fair across from our
world class museum, historic home tours, hundreds of yard/garage sales and
food, music... Typical festival fare.

The Women of the Old West End (a subgroup of the Old West End committee)
decided to try a crafts fair this year for the first time. It was held
several blocks away from the main happenings... Just a couple of blocks from
my home. One of the WOWE members offered up her lovely yard to host the
fair.

It was originally listed as an art fair. Then it became and arts and crafts
fair. When I arrived to set up Saturday morning, there was a horrid hunk of
cardboard up by the street that said, in drippy red paint, "CRAFT SHOW IN
BACK".

We got the EZUp set up and the table covered (thanks again, Jeanne!) and got
the computer going to run my video. The show ran from 10 - 5. At 9:45, we
had our first sale: a pair of Prairieson's earrings. Who was the buyer? Only
the director of the School of Design at the Museum!!!!! And so the day
began...

I sent two flyers over to the museum with Prairieson, telling where I would
be and such. A very, VERY nice, simple, classy flyer, if I do say so myself!
It also offered a 10% discount to Museum employees. According to my cash
register, over half my sales were to Museum employees. I think this really
tells me something, eh???

Sales were steadily sporadic during the day, but here was the AMAZING thing:
I think I only sold four or five beads!!! And one of those was a Prairieson
bead! The beads that sold were the low-end, simple beads... Not necessarily
my favorites, either. People simply didn't feel compelled to buy "just
beads". They ooohed and ahhhed a LOT, and I got to talk about the process
all day, which was fun.

Because it was so darn slow, I went home and got Cosmo so he could hang out
with us. I think he really helped business. LOL! There was a parade down
that street early in the day, and Jeanne caught some Mardi Gras beads, which
she gave to Cosmo. He wore them all day long. LOL! He is a VERY outgoing,
gentle, personable bird, and really drew a lot of people to the booth.
That's when sales picked up. As folks would walk by, he would say "Hello!"
and "Whatcha DOOin?" I have some great pics of him wearing his beads and
entertaining people.

Money-wise, even though I didn't go home with a lot of money, I feel very
satisfied with how it went. I loved seeing the reactions of people to my
work. I covered my show fee, my EZ-Up with a couple of bucks left over. And
I'm glad that what I did sell was completed pieces: I know jewelry doesn't
sell very well on eBay.

Oh, and my Delphi necklace (the one that took 1st place in the online Art
Glass Festival) was swooned over many, many times. As was a "Study in
Purple" bracelet that I did. I will be trying to sell those, either through
my website or at auction.

So now the fun begins: Time to take photos of my beads and start offering
them up. I've been thinking that, perhaps, this would be a good time to
stock my website. I do have an astounding number of really good beads and
vessels right now. The rest to eBay. After I give first dibs to my mailing
list customers, of course. LOL!

All in all, I'm happy with how it went. Let the sales begin!!!!!

Good for you Tink! I loved hearing about Cosmo. He sounds like a good ice
breaker! I know, when I've been to shows, I'm always reluctant to talk to
people (I feel like I'm bothering them), but if they have a pet, I'll talk
to it, or ask about it. I'll bet Cosmo made a good welcoming committee!

And that the museum employees were your customers says a lot about your
beads!

He's a studmuffin, for sure. LOL! And sweet, and smart, and helpful and....
and... and... Well, you get the idea! This was the first show I'd ever done
with any help at all! (I used to do teddy bear shows all over the country).
When we got to our site, he pulled up a chair and told me to sit because
"You're the princess". LOL! He did ALL the lifting and carrying and such...
And he is SO good with customers! I'm proud to say that the first thing we
sold that day was a pair of his earrings...

I think Cosmo is the latest initiate to bead-o-mania. He let me know today
he wanted to look 'pretty', then put his head down. He wanted his beads
back. LMAO! He can only wear them when supervised, so I took him to the
living room, put him on his playstand, adorned him with beads, and cranked
up the stereo. We had a BLAST dancing to party music. Until I ran out of
steam. He was still going strong.

Last week, I made him a little rattle of sorts from a round clear storage
box and one of my Beads Gone Terribly Wrong. He absolutely LOVES it! Not
only is it nice for him to look at, it makes great sounds!

My Siamese, Taupaws, also loves to dance. He especially likes the
Irish-American women's group, "Cherish the Ladies" and some of the hard driving
country stuff like "Down at the Twist and Shout." He comes tearing down the
hall whenever he hears the stereo and jumps in my lap. Most Siamese are thin,
but he weighs 15 lbs, so it can be a major shock if you aren't expecting him.
