I have have been working on a few folk art projects. My 5 year old neice has
requested that I paint a mirror for her. I have to think like a five year
old (not necessarily all that difficult for me) so I've painted the
background candy pink, with rainbow flowers and her name. I am beading and
bejewelling the whole thing and the combination is very fairyland. I think
she will love it. This is the first time I've combined the two art forms,
most enjoyable.

sounds like heaven!
can you get glass decor nuggets? I had a heap bought from cheap as chips (
variety discount chain-store) that my daughter and I glued to a concrete
pillar along with sea glass and hole-less beads, it just needs grouting and
all set to dazzle in the garden.
I think the pillar started life as a leg for old fashioned concrete laundry
sinks
and of course DH would never fess up to liking it..... it has to stay in the
back garden.

I'll try, she is coming over tomorrow and I'm giving it to her then, I'll
see if DH will set the camera up for me.

I sure can, from Red Dot and places like that. I wanted some for this
project, but didn't have a lot of time to shop so settled for faceted
plastic gems. My niece is going to love it, even if I consider them tacky! I
want some of those glass nuggets, just to keep in my craft stash, very
handy.

Perfect for the gathering of the Faery Folk!

What did you use for glue? I've been thinking about doing this - I have the
glass jewels and lots of boo boo beads. I was thinking of using the regular
mosaic mastic (not sure what it's really called) then grouting. Plus I have
a broken mirror to incorporate.

Hubby also has played with mini-mosaics using some of the glass culls with
polymer clay. Will try to get a scan as soon as they are cooked.

we used left over tile adhesive from when I had to re-tile the bathroom,
(the tiles fell off the wall two days after we bought the house!)
I was working on the assumption that tile adhesive would be waterproof and
so should stand up to the weather, so far so good.....

*hanging head in shame* Hot glue. I gave my niece strict instructions not
to pick the gems off though!! Not sure if this makes it any better! Nita's
suggestion is MUCH better, don't follow my bad example.

I'm assuming your niece's gift was on a wood/mdf base?
I was "glueing" onto concrete, so you need to use a glue suited to your
materials, so I probably would have used hot glue, some glues can damage
your "gems", I used epoxy on plastic gems once and it made the mirror
backing go all bubbly and they lost the sparkle and ruined my project.

Now you're just trying to make me feel better! LOL Actually, yes, the mirror
is MDF and after it is painted and varnished, I really don't know how else I
could have glued on the sparklies, maybe craft pva, the tacky kind.
