"Beth" mad1...@crestviewcable.com

May I present myself... My name is Beth.

I am almost 51, the mother of two grown daughters and the mother of
choice to another... all three are married, and only the ptd has a child,
Ben, who is almost 6.

I live with my radio station owner/manager husband and six housecats (furry
children) in Madras,Oregon. Madras is just north of the center of the
state... High desert country... no cactus, just Sagebrush and Junipers. Hot
hot summers (last summer's high was 113!) and cold cold winters..( this past
October we were minus 5, and in January got almost two feet of snow on the
ground.)

I love to garden... and in this new climate (we only moved here in July of
'03) I get to learn about a whole set of new plants to work with... I
stamp, scrapbook, sew, tole paint, and bead. I 've been beading off and on
since I was about 9, when I got a loom and started with that. I have yet to
learn many of the stitches you all talk about a lot, but I will. I do brick
stitch fairly well, and am working on peyote. My dad was a jeweler of
sorts, slabbing rock and then making cabs, which he set into mountings...
and I learned a lot at his knee. He also did some silversmithing and was a
faceter in his later years. Mostly, I'm not afraid to try anything.

Health wise, I am plagued with chronic depression, CFS (mild, thank God),
asthma, DJD... and try my dead level best to just keep truckin'!

I consider myself a beginner, almost to the intermediate stage.

Oh, and HI! right back atcha! I really enjoy this group. Madras is tiny,
with our only beadshops (2)...well, one is in a "trading post" since we are
only about 30 miles from the Warm Springs Reservation... and the other is
... high end and not very friendly. So, I need you all!..

Here's mine, posted recently:

My name is Alison, I'm 35 (March 2004), am married (6 years in
March 2004), have no children, two cats, and work in educational
research. Rubber stamping is my crafting passion.

I don't do beadwork. I love beads, though -- I must be a magpie at heart.
I love them, but I don't wear jewelry. I tried making jewelry, and wasn't
too bad at it, but generally had no interest in wearing it and no interest
in marketing it - especially given what I learned about the market from
reading here! So, I sold the entirety of my beading supplies to my aunt,
and stick around here because I can't help myself. I'm crazy about Kandice
and Sooz and Kathy N-V, as well as many many others who frequent this
wonderful "place"; and the eye-candy is spectacular. I love looking at all
the things for sale or for show and tell.

The fan pulls in my kitchen were custom-made by Kandice (and get comments
left and right from visitors to my home!), and I own a Tink bead
purely for looking at, holding, and generally adoring. So, I'm not a beader
in the sense of most everyone else here, but I do love beads and therefore
intend to stay as long as you'll have me.

Most kind regards,
Alison

To explain:
Everyone, please write a bio here, if you possibly can. I'll keep them on
Word, and give them out only to the people on this NG. And you don't HAVE to
write one if you don't want to. But if you do, please write it so I don't have
to edit it heavily....you now, no segments of other people's posts excerpted,
try not to make a big mess, etc.
:-) And please include your birthdate if you can.

Okay? Ready, set -- go.

Since my life is changing a lot right now this will be longer then usual...

I am Marisa2 (having for the first life found another Marisa who spells her name
the same way I do here in RCB... very happy to share a name with someone so
"exotic"!)

I am 26 and live with my husband in IL, USA. Up till two weeks ago our third
family member was a peurtie beurdie...Mucha the budgie. :( he just passed
away. Until then DH hosted Muchacam, a live webcam featuring Mucha's day-time
activities, as well as other pictures and movies on Mucha's own webpage. I have
a feeling we will have another pal/baby at home soonish but we are giving
ourselves some time now.

I am a computer scientist but am planning to go back to school in the fall for a
PhD in Instructional Systems Technologies (an Education related field). We are
moving to a university town and are very excited about our new life.
Unfortunately that means we will be moving to Indiana which is 5 hours away from
my family.
We do not have human kids yet but are planning to over the next few years
(ahhh!!! A pregnant PhD student...does that sound fun or what?)

Most of my friends are online and I met my husband online. Therefore I really
like the OT posts here... this is my social gathering place. I don't know many
people here very well but I would really like to.

Bead-wise, I guess you would say what I do is mostly bead-stringing. I do do
some work with multiple strands but I do it all with separators, crimping, etc.
My work has a "nature" theme to it; I try to use natural elements and natural
colors as much as possible. Of course my work has grown over time.
I have only been beading for a couple of years but I think my work has been
improving and I have sold a little at craft fairs and at a little local gallery
with a nature theme. I also have a website where I "sell" my work (though none
has ever sold from the website yet): http://www.tevayafae.com .

Margie is going to teach me RAW soon! So that will be something new for me. My
other new project is making watches with beaded bands.

My favorite beads are Bali Silver and semi-precious stones, though I use a lot
of sead beads in my work. I like very small, fine work.

I do not wear jewelry myself, except when I am stress-testing my own work (which
is pretty frequently now!)

Well, while the dogs are snoozing, DH is playing with clay and before I
start dinner......

Here goes..........

I'm Jan and I live in Pittsburgh, PA. Please never call me Janice, that
means I am in trouble, as in "Janice Adela Allen, get down here!!!!" I live
with my DH, a retired gov't employee. He hit 55 with 30 years in, took his
pension and hasn't looked back He is also a professional musician, playing
Irish music in the Irish pubs in the tristate area. We have a son and an 11
year old granddaughter who are moving to the San Francisco area in the fall,
sniff, sob (reaching for her hankey!) We share our home with 3 Wheaten
Terriers, Finbar, Liffey and KatieMAE!!!, the youngest. She came from
Wheaten Rescue as a foster and never left because she was born without a
real bladder and has to wear diapers.

I am a retired radiological tech, worked in orthopedics for over 20 years.
I was diagnosed several years ago with fibro and severe polyarticular OA. I
have had several surgeries, joints rebuilt in my hands, tendon repairs and a
total knee replacement over the years and could no longer work. So I had to
retire on disablilty.

I am involved in Wheaten Rescue, fostering, evaluating, placing them in
homes and transporting. I also belong to several Irish charitable
organizations and am the Data Systems Administrator for the St. Patrick's
Day parade in Pittsburgh. This entails getting the entry forms from the
committees, putting in a data base, assigning the line up positions and
writing the scripts for the reviewing stand announcers.

I got started in beading this past Christmas. We were shopping and I was
looking at jewelry. I made the remark that I could do that and DH took me
up on it. He gave me some tools, beads and other things for Christmas and I
was hooked. Of course, all the things he got were wrong, but he realized he
didn't know what I would need. So, a couple of days after Christmas he took
me to a large craft store and told me to go crazy.

Right now I do mostly necklaces and earrings, love semiprecious stones like
jasper, agate and obsidian. I try to do some with Celtic beads. I bought a
loom that I am hoping to set up next week after we get some things out of
the way and DH and I are both getting into polymer clay.

I lurk here a lot, reading and learning. I hope to someday have some
answers so I can help others. And I love the OT stories. Maybe I will post
some of my own someday.

So, that is me in a nutshell. Oh, and my birthday is May 20th. I am not
sharing the year but I am a boomer :-)!

Well, I think I'll unlurk for this one.

Hello, my name is Helen C. Live in the armpit of Oregon (yes, another
oregonian/west coaster) I even remember Beth from when she was moving!
Been reading this NG for a couple of years. Don't post much. Not much of a
"me-too poster" And not really into lampwork (don't have much of a use for
it "yet"! LOL) Extremely limited bead fundage so ignore most of the ads.
And DH keeps having major computer issues so I have to keep re-downloading
the group. BUT, (!) have another computer for this now, so when his goes
down, it shouldn't matter anymore (and he can't blame it on me!)

I mainly work with seed beads. Mostly peyote stitch lighter cases, brick
stich earrings, some earrings with headpins, peyote keychains & pen covers,
a few necklaces and just about everything else that catches my fancy. Been
the recipient of a few BFNR (thanks again to the ones who sent them, you
know who you are and I'm eternally grateful) Try to keep track of what's
going on with who (hugs to all that need them)

Now, onto my home life (!) Been married to DH since 1996 and have way too
many kids (lol) with another one due any day (the sooner the better) DD -
1997, DS (problem child - ADHD) 1998, DD - 1999, DS - 2001, DD - 2003 &
??? - soon. DH has a non epileptic seizure disorder that makes my life
extremely hectic and interesting. Along with scoliosis, chronic pain,
insomnia (which make the seizures worse) and a few other things. Working on
getting him on SSI or whichever one he qualifies for. Fortunately I'm
phsically healthy (not gonna comment on my mental state) so it's all good.
Get tired of being head cook and bottle washer but one good thing I can say
about DH is he brings in people to help me. Usually strays but I warn them
there's 3 basic rules and I'm not joking.
1. Attitude is encouraged
2. Speak up or suffer in silence (in other words, you know where the door
is)
3. You will be used! (my personal favorite because I just LOVE delegating
jobs, HATE doing dishes, shouldn't be doing any heavy lifting right now,
have 5 house unkeepers to my one doing the keeping, get up early with the
kids for school, stay up late to keep an eye on DH {he walked 5 miles in a
seizure a couple of weeks ago while I was sleeping}[scary!] & I need to
sleep sometime.

Don't have much time for beading (gee, I wonder why?) but I get as much in
as possible since it's cheaper than therapy and I actually get something
from it. I really enjoy the NG. Have a tendancy to write way too much
(probably related to being home much of the time) so I try not to post too
frequently. Have felt ignored but try not to take it personally (but
everyone has "one of those days") Have to remember that even though I
"know" everyone on here from my daily reading, you all don't know me that
well. Best example I can come up with is a waitress in a restaraunt. She's
(or he) "your" waitress BUT you're ONE of x amount of customers.

Sorry for the book.

Happy beading to EVERYONE!,

Helen C

I de-lurked last week. I guess I should finish introducing myself. I'll be
60 at the end of the week. Took early retirement a few years ago when the
frustrating aspects of my profession began to grossly exceed the rewarding
parts. Now I do whatever the heck I want, which seems to be making jewelry,
performing in community theater, and taking classes at the university and
the community college.
My three daughters are an international business MBA, an attorney, and a
vocal performer. Son is a writer for Comedy Central. Three grandchildren: 4,

>Okay? Ready, set -- go.

Well, I can't remember if I ever did this or not, so here goes.

Hi. My name is Cheri (sounds like Sherry) and I am a beader. heh. I'm 54 and
live in Frederick, a small town nestled in the mountains of Maryland with DH
(who I met online 10 years ago) and Roxy the German Shepherd. Frederick is a
pre-civil war town. In fact, Abraham Lincoln stopped here on his way to give
the Gettysburg Address. It's utterly charming, with tons of antique stores.
This time of year the entire town is in bloom with cherry blossoms and bradford
pears and azaleas. One of my favorite things about Frederick is that it's 50
miles west of Baltimore and 50 miles northwest of Washington, DC. So we're
only an hour from lots of shopping, theatre, culture, whatever your heart
desires.

I have two grown daughters, one lives in Delaware and one in San Diego. The DE
daughter has two lovely kids, 7 YO Emily and almost 6YO Nathan. The CA
daughter is the one who got me hooked on beads. She came home for a visit and
said, I'm going to show you how to make bracelets! We shopped at Michaels and
JoAnns and she taught me how to make memory wire bracelets. I'm sure she never
thought I would take that and run the way I did. LOL. Anyway that was only
about 18 months ago, so I am still a relative newbie to beading. I've done a
little stringing and some beadweaving and I've learned alot and love it all.

DH is a cartographer (he makes maps) and he is a contractor for the govt.
agency NOAA. I am also a contractor for the Army as an accounting tech. DH
has two kids who lived with us for a couple of years but they are both in
college now.

Well, I guess that's enough for an intro. My birthday is July 12th.

Nice to get to know you, Beth!

I don't have a lot of people here straight, so it's nice to read the intros
now and then and refresh my memory.

I'm Jerri from Georgia. I grew up military, so I'm not really from
anywhere. Married 20 years this June (Wow, how did that happen so fast?).
I have a 10 yr. old daughter. I had three dogs, but lost one recently, so
am now down to two, and now my oldest is having problems. Thank goodness
the other one is only three! I also have Butterbean, the famous guinea pig,
and a 20 year old cockatiel.

I used to be a transplant RN, but have stayed home for the past several
years doing full time mom stuff and part time bead stuff. Hubby works for
UPS, so we work things around his crazy and long hours. I've been a
lampworker for about 6 years.

One of my favorite places is the William Holland school in N. Ga. and I'll
be going there to take my 4th wire class this summer. One day, I want to
take seed beading there too! I don't do seed beads, except in small doses,
and I love seed bead work, so I'm just going to have to learn some of those
stitches one day.

Hi, I'm Celine, and I'm a beadaholic... oh, that wasn't the sort of
introduction you meant? <g>

Okay, seriously. I was born in 1956, but am a relative newcomer to beading,
having only been doing this for about the past 3 years. I'm primarily a
bead-stringer, although I want to get into wirework too. I love lampworked
glass but have absolutely *no* ambition to do it myself! I work mostly with
stone and semi-precious beads; I like using pretty-but-unusual materials in my
work. I also work mostly with larger beads, though I use seed beads for accents
and similar purposes. Beadweaving would drive me batty.

Personally, I live in Houston with my partner and his daughter from a previous
marriage. I've been here since the end of 1998; before that, I lived in
Nashville for many years. We have 5 cats, all relatively young -- I lost my
23-year-old grand lady Mina last year. When I'm not online or doing beadwork, I
like to read (mostly science fiction and mysteries), attend science fiction
conventions, and contradance. My partner runs a T-shirt and bumper sticker
business. Not having a day job is good because it gives us more flexibility to
go to events; we range as far as Des Moines and Atlanta on occasion. So far
I've mostly tagged along and sold at the events he goes to, but this year we
are going to do a couple of real crafts fairs for me.

That's about all I can think of to say. Hope it helps!

old). He is a Paramedic and Firefighter (avid fly fisherman & flytyer).
I'm a First Responder and Honorary Firefighter. We live in Los Lunas, New
Mexico.

We have 3 chihauhaus. Buddy, who is my baby. He's 3 years old. His two
daughters, Eppy & Ms. Diamonds. They are 8 months old. We have no children
together. I have a daughter and a son from a previous marriage. Beth, who
will be 21 in May and Tony, who will be 20 in October. They both live in
Ohio.

I started beading last November. I've learned a few of the stitches but
have learned that I need instant gratification. So earrings and stringing
are what I've been doing. I will be trying to do the amulet bags next.

I took a class with a friend three weeks ago to keep her company. It was in
Polymer Clay. Oh Boy!! So now I have a station set up for Polymer Clay. I
love it. I like the sculpture part best. I have not tried the jewelry yet.
But I'm sure it will come.

I've got some wire working stuff going on too. But I haven't done anything
with it yet. A new shop in town is offering classes in a month, so I will
take that class too.

I crochet a little. Make Christmas stockings. Gardening & reading.

I have neurological problems so am on disability. Also bipolar, migraines &
now some type of back problem with excrutiating pain.

Hello RCB'ers...

I'm a first time poster. My name is Anna and live close to the Houston area
in Texas. I'm 55 yrs young and will be married 30 yrs in June to a wonderful
DH that has battled (and hopefully won) cancer this past year. No kids but
our sweet white Chihuahua, Chloe allows us to live in and share this nice
home with her. :)

It's been one year this month that I've been reading RCB. I went to a
Stitching Festival (I do counted cross stitch) last April and while waiting
for my Hardanger class to start, I took a Make-It-Take-It beaded bracelet
class. I came home more excited about the beads than the stitching. I told
DH it was "instant gratification" to bead and all he could say was, "UH
OH"!! I've been hooked ever since. :)

I've enjoyed this group so much and have learned way more than I ever
expected I could. I've learned (through online tutorials) to beadweave and I
like peyote the best but will try anything. I've made bracelets, necklaces,
earrings and ornament covers.

I truly feel that the beading and RCB has kept my sanity intact this past
year. It helps me kick my mind out of gear and not worry quite as much. I
feel as though I know many of you. I've laughed and cried with you. Cheered
you on and sent many, many good vibes out all over the world. For your
friendship, encouragement and knowledge, I thank you all. :)

Hi, Anna! Are you by any chance someone I'd know from the Houston Bead Society?
If not, would you be interested in finding out more about it? Info is available

from 10AM to noon on the 2nd floor of Texas Art Supply on Montrose. Starlia is
coming in from Austin, to go to the Intergem bead show, and we'll probably both
be there. It would be cool to have another RCBer in the bunch!

Hi my name is Mavis. I'm 36. I am married to my DH of 15 years. We have
2 children - a boy nearly 11 and a girl nearly 10. We live in the
North Island of New Zealand with one very cheeky ginger cat, who we all
love to bits :)

I have a wide variety of interests so bear with me ;)

Only late last year was introduced to beading by a good friend and am
learning all the time. I also do a lot of sewing and am adding beads to
some outfits I have made.

Coming from NZ I love the outdoors and particularly diving, swimming,
walking and cycling. We live in the country, 5 minutes from the beach and
live there in the summer. We also have a boat and are currently it is
under maintenance but once it is on the water, it will be fishing, diving,
fishing, diving, fishing, diving...

I also love gardening and other outdoor work. (I own my own lawnmower,
chainsaw, scrubcutter etc etc and love to get out and put them to use as
often as I can) I guess I'm a jack of all trades really. Comes from
growing up on a dairy farm, I think.

Probably left heaps off, but that'll do

My turn :)

My name is Candace (and the gods be with you if you call me Candy...@
age 15, I told everyone I was neither a lil girl or a stripper, so
please respect my given name). I'm beginning to think that I am 1)
the youngest (visible) member on here and 2)the newest to the
world'o'beads. I am 23 years old, born Dec. 11, 1980, and I got into
beads and beading in January of this year. (Okay, I bought some stuff
last summer, but never did anything useful with it until January)

I live in the middle of nowhere..Sikeston Missouri, or as dh likes to
call it--Sucks-a-ton, Misery. I've been married to Adam for 3 years,
this coming Cinco de Mayo, and we have two children, Darian Troy, who
is 5 on Thursday, and Tyler Austin, who turned 1 on Feb 6th. I
married my older ds's blood father's best friend (confuzzled yet?),
and OMG did I get the better man! :)

I was born in Wyoming, then spent ten years in Illinois, then another
ten in NoCali, before moving here last year. I'm a military brat, and
so is dh, but HE got to move all over the place, while I spent forever
on the same bases. We miss Cali, but can't afford to live there
anymore...not until that magick lotto ticket appears in our greedy lil
paws.

We have one pet, Lady Spazz, a classic American Red and Cream Tabby
cat. She adopted us the day we moved into this house (Jan1st, this
year) and being the ole softies that we are, we couldn't bear to turn
away a poor defenseless 6month old kitten. Especially since she
figured out how to crawl thru the heating system under the house, from
the outside, and end up in our laundry room....repeatedly. And she
chirps like a bird...no meow-ing for her!

I got into beading because I was looking for a way to supplement our
income, in a manner that I would enjoy doing...and since I'm basically
an artsy-craftsy kinda gal..it seemed the way to go. Now, I'm
completely addicted...and so is DH and older ds! We do bead
stringing, and although I have a smallish loom, I'm just not at a
place where I have enough patience for it yet. I love to use Druk
beads and cubes, and to multi strand seed beads. Until very recently,
I just wasn't interested in faceted beads of any kind...but the
sparkle of crystal is working on me, daily...lol.

Lampworks? Until I joined this group...my nose would turn up, my eyes
would squint, and I would say EW! Now that I've surfed thru so many
of this NG's member's websites..I am SO drowning in my own
pool'o'drool. Just wait gals..when I win that big jackpot...you are
all gonna be working overtime for ME! Muhhahahahaha! <---evil laugh

We started doing one of a kind hemp jewelry a few months ago...had
some success with selling it on eBay, and caught the eye of a
distributer for the SE US. We are currently contracted to him for 73
pieces. We do some pretty weird stuff with our hemp, *blows own horn*
not like anything I've ever seen in a retail store. DH is the KING at
making eye catching chokers, and my area of play is bracelets. We use
all sorts of bead in our hemp...druks, bicones, bones,
wood..roccailles...just about everything that will fit on hemp!

Dh lost his job a couple months ago, and the job market here is
terrible. We'd managed to live on our income tax returns, but that's
pretty much gone, and we're at that point of not being able to sleep
and eat right for all the stress and worry. Hopefully, something will
come along this week.

I think I've rambled on enough for now..someone else's turn :)

More than you ever wanted to know about me...

I'm Barbara, 40 and married to DH Jon for 6 years come this June. We met
online about 8 years ago - I was in Omaha and he was in Tallahassee. I've
been in Tally-town for 7 years. We have one child, 13 months old, the
Amazing Avner. Cutest child on the planet, lol.

I work full time as a tech writer for an international software company. DH
is a graphic designer and has a web hosting biz on the side (check my sig).
I have 2 cats, Ubu & Scimitar and WE have 2 dogs, Bubba & Babes. Uber-mutts.
Bubba is around 110 pounds, Babes is around 90. They are
bulldog/hound/lab/rottweiller mixes (as far as we can tell.). They are big,
black slobbery beasts and we love them to death. We must, because last year
we spent over two grand on knee surger for Babes. Oy!

I've been beading since childhood off and on. I mostly do stringing, but I
have a passion for lampwork and have taken at least 1 class so far. I also
do wirework, chainmaking, polymer clay and some seed bead work. I'm taking
classes in bead crochet, ndebele stitch, brick stitch and polymer clay at
the Bead & Button Show this year to improve my skills and branch out
artistically. I also spend time practicing making enamel beads
(www.pinzart.com) but aren't good enough to show them off, yet. The bulk of
my selling is name bracelets, but lately I've done a few wedding jewelry
sets for attendants and sold some original pieces through a local gallery.

I love penguins and collect all sorts of them. Lately I've been working on
finishing my collection of Boyd's Glass Artie penguin figurines. I have
about 21 of the possible 30 colors. Gotta love eBay!

That's about it...I have a new gallery up on my site if you want to see my
work.

Well, if you can get him to the Carrissa Plains area of San Luis Obispo County,
CA, there are probably a few ranchers that would be interested.... The
"squirrels" are actually a type of marmot ("ground squirrels"), and the big
problem with them is that they tunnel fairly near the surface. When a large
animal-- like a cow or horse-- steps on a tunnel, it collapses, and may break
the animal's leg. Can't trap them-- too much ground to cover (the ranch the GSH
went to has 22,000 acres), can't use poison-- the only effective poison is one
that "keeps killing" (anything that eats the poisoned "squirrel" is also
killed, aand anything that eats THAT animal, etc), and can use "fire bombs"
only during wet season on limited acreage. So... "squirrel shooting" is a local
sport that is actually useful. There even are contests on who can get the most
during a specific time period (collect tails for proof), followed by a barbeque
party (not barbequed "squirrel").

Remember, this will be available to people a year or two from now. So stuff
like the above needs to be altered by me when I edit your stuff. Maybe add the
year in parentheses or something, you guys? Thanks. Less work for me if you
cover these things yourselves.

Also, try not to use emoticons -- I edit them out because Word doesn't like

I'll tag this on because I accidentally deleted the original thread.

I'm Karen (between official last names at the moment). Divorced, engaged,
mom of 2 (15 yo DD and 11 yo DS). Originally from PA, now happily in AZ
(east of Phoenix). I live with the Best Guy Ever (Mike) and we're getting
married in October. Oh, and my birthday is July 7.

I've been making jewelry since I was 14 (back in the days of liquid silver
and carved animals). Digressed to be a serious fiberholic for many years
(spinning, weaving, dyeing, and knitting). About 10 years ago my niece
turned me on to polymer clay, which led back to jewelry, which led to
lampwork. Now I melt glass for a living. Life is good. <G> I still spin
sometimes for relaxation, and occasionally knit socks and gloves (utterly
useless in the desert LOL). I also play piano and classical guitar.

I'm an avid sci-fi reader, also like a good mystery. Mike and I are tag-team
cooks when we have a chance (mostly weekends). We're currently in an
apartment, and planning (fingers crossed) to buy a brand new house at the
end of the year (gods and mortgage officers willing).

I've been told I have a twisted sense of humor. Matches the rest of me, I
guess. <G>

:)

I have decided that this time I am NOT going to rush it.
The fellowship only lasts 4 years, but they said frequently people take 5 years
or more, and that that is pretty easy because by that time it should be easy to
find a graduate assistanceship (I need to find one the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year
anyhow, and the fellowship "tops it off", which allows me to take the most
interesting GAship without worrying if it covers me financially or credit-hour
wise).
I feel that for me it is better to take all of the classes I want to take, and
to make the most of the opportunity to do research etc.
So...a new phase of life for me... I will NOT take an overload, will NOT force
myself to take things out of order or beg to skip out of classes to finish on
time, I WILL take what interests me and if I am excited enough to take a double
or tripple minor , I just will let myself!
Oh and hopefully I will give myself a little slack if I am pregnant (something I
have zero experience with!)
I hope everyone will hold me to that vow!

I know. I've got an extra 25 on right now. It's not so bad, but I'd love to
lose 15 of it......But the meds, I can understand what a burden they are. I
never took Depakote, but had a friend who did, and it wasn't good for her
either. (I was on lithium for about 15 years.) I think a lot of docs like to
throw Rxs at patients, especially with the drug company reps constantly
bombarding them with visits and samples and other crap.

Hi my name is Beth. Born and raised in Iowa, I'm 32 and work in the field
of
accounting. Married my DH September 1999. No kids yet and no pets due to
allergies. I am an extremely proud aunt to 6 wonderful nieces and nephews,
soon to be 7.

Frustrated by the stress at work and trying to deal with my
father's condition after a diagnosis of Lou Gehrig's disease in 1998, I
found bead
stringing as a stress reliever and creative outlet. I appreciate the
instant gratification that stringing brings. I love working with
semi-precious stones and sterling silver and am
beginning to discover the awesome beauty of lampwork thanks to this group.

I met a great gal January 2004 who owns a small shop locally featuring her
own artwork (non-bead related). I've been selling my beaded jewelry in her
shop since. Turns out she works with a publishing company in their crafts
division and two of my pieces will be published in one of their upcoming
books. I wonder how I got so lucky to have this happen and cannot figure it
out. I just chalk it up to fate and I feel fortunate that I've been
rewarded for doing something I love.

Hi,
I'm KathyH. I live in Wisconsin where I work at a private university in the
admissions office. I have a Husband, a 15 year old daughter and 2 cats (one
fat cat, one thin cat). My husband is an engineer and an artist. My
daughter is a very cool person; very bright and unique. I love hiking in
the woods and have always enjoyed nature's beauty. I'm 44. I love to read
and I love to learn new things. I especially love history and science
(basic science, that I can understand, no mathematical theories). I love
childrens illustrated books. "Where the Wild Things Are" is a Fav. There
are many fantastic, magical childrens books out there.
I like to believe that there is magic in the world.

I try to live by the golden rule of treat others as you would want to be
treated. Also I love to laugh and to find the humor in my every day life.

My bead work is mostly "stringing" larger beads. I do wire work and have
done some peyote stitch. I have tons of beads. I could open a bead store
with my stash. I especially love working with Bali beads, freshwater pearls
and semiprecious, carved beads. Lapis is my favorite stone.
I don't have a favorite color. I like all colors, with the exception of
Pepto Bismol Pink. My birthday is January 16th.

I have been coming to Rec Craft Beads for at least 4 years now and love it.
I find it to be a great source of entertainment, information and support.

Well lets see here....

I'm Kathy K, currently in Asheville NC (where apparently nature is not sure
what season it is - there was snow on the mountain tops today). Birthday is
5-17-66, and yes I can be stubborn like Taurus:) I live with 2 cats Calybe
and Lilea (sisters). I have had them almost 2 years now. (one is currently
in my lap and the other is front of the computer screen).
I have a DBF in north Atlanta that I met online (yes I moved from Atlanta to
Ashveille so I can meet someone from Atlanta - go figure!)

I've been beading off and on since I was a kid - thanks to my arts and
crafty and very creative Mom. I found RCB a little over a year ago and
WOW - have I learned a lot! I had never heard of lampwork unitl then - now
i buy it like crazy and am learning to make my own. I do mostly stringing
work - necklaces, and earrings, and every now and then a bracelet. i work
with seed beads, lampwork, stones, semi-precious, silver and Austrian
crystals that are made by a family business that sounds like twarovski :)
(actually I think I'm addicted to the crystlas - mmm soo sparkly). I am
very slowly working on selling my work - have a web host, but no page yet -
should be up soon. I also work with PMC (precious metal clay) and like to
incorporate it into my work.

I love the outdoors and like hiking and white water kayaking. I also love
reading - particularly historical romance (hee hee), but I'll read most
anything! Guess that's enough for now - gotta keep some mystery about me :)

I guess I'll break down and do this, too...LOL.

I'm Jalynne, AKA Jennifer, born Nov. 23, 1971. I have been married to DH 11 years on
May 24th of this year, and we have a DD who will be 7 on May 1st. I'm into music
(was a vocal performance major in college), quilting, scrapbooking, and started
playing with beads when I was in high school. I'm currently recovering from a
hysterectomy, but in the fall I will resume my online college courses to obtain my
B.S. in Psychology, and then move on to law school, where I want to train to be a
research attorney. I'm also toying with the idea of a Master's in Psychology for
Marriage and Family Counseling, perhaps before law school, since I'll have to work my
way through school.

Right now, we live in Tacoma, Washington, but since DH is in the Navy, we move to a
new station every 3 years or so, and our time will be up two years from now. We
don't know where we'll be, but this group will always be accessable, so I can carry
my friends with me!

Beading has become the ultimate creative outlet for me, second only to quilting. The
possibilities are endless, with colours and form, to express whatever I happen to be
feeling at any given moment. I can use beads in all of my craft endeavors, so I
definitely like the versatility of the art. I do have several friends IRL, but one
can never have too many friends, and I am glad that I have found this group to make
my world a little bigger. I've learned so much here, and have been encouraged to
jump off the high dive, and have the confidence that I can do whatever I put my mind
to. I'm definitely a beginner, and tend to have lots of questions, and want to
experiment with lots of different techniques before I find my "niche". My style
tends to be more traditional and classic, and I prefer colours and styles that stand
the test of time.

Alright, since everyone else is doing a short bio I'll give it a go.

My name is Starlia Klopman and I currently live in Leander, Texas after
living in Alaska for several years. I'm happily married to my best friend
Dan. We've been married 11 years and we'll celebrate our 12th anniversary
on May 28th! My DD's live in Alaska with their father, but they are great.

We have three dogs in our lives. Trinkett is mentioned most often and she
is a 2 1/2 year old blue chihuahua. Smudges is a 2 1/2 year old lab.
Tolak, the great hunter, is a 3 year old German Shorthair. Trinkett runs
the household and she runs it with an iron bark. LOL

I have been beading for about 4 years now and began making lampwork beads in
June 2003. I really enjoy working with hot glass and it's my second
artistic outlet. I've been oil painting for 24 years now having started at
the tender age of 11. It's still my passion, but there is something to be
said about playing with fire.

My wife Kerry is the bead artist, but she won't learn to use the computer
until she retires from teaching first grade. So, I am the family
communicator for now. I am also the jewelry mechanic- I attach clasps,
string her designs on wire, attach ear wires, etc. I am semi retired,
working part time so she can buy more beads. I used to be a serious
whitewater boater(class 5-6) until chemo stole my stamina. Kerry has 2
children and 3.9 grand children, waiting for the call any minute.
She started using beads about 4 yrs ago when she was looking for some yarn
in a shop in Nashville, TN. She had been doing fiber arts for many yrs. She
carded, spun, and knit or felted with wool, silk, llama, or any hairy thing
she could find. She saw what we now know was an amulet bag with a few beads
on it. Her reaction was "I can do better". Here is her "better" -
http://www.dvinedzines.com/wpe61.jpg . That was the beginning of a wild
sleigh ride that is still going.
She now has a small bead shop in her studio, has been to Bali to buy beads
and designed beads to be made there for her creations. She plans to take a
group of beaders there in 2005.
She never makes the same thing twice. I honestly don't think she can do it.
She loves fringe and embellishes her work until it can't hold any more.
We live in N.Calif and plan to retire to "OREGON"( applause from all you
Oregonians). I joined this group for us about 6 months ago and have been
blown away by the talent represented here. I have also been awed by some of
the web sites of members. I really enjoy going to all the sites cited by
members. I only wish we could get hi speed internet, we have no cable TV,
and live way too far out for DSL. It is frustrating waiting for all the
beautiful pictures to down load. I wanna see them NOW.

course what Pete hasn't got is there admission that he is disabled, so
there's not SSI, and WC's payout was about a years wages.

My name is Tina Peterson. I was born Nov 11, 1948, in Oakland, Calif, and
am 55 now and living in Fairbanks, Alaska. With lots of family in Calif I
usually visit yearly, and thus have had the privilege a visiting Sooz a few
times.

My son, Roger lives in Sacramento, CA, with his wife, Nelya, whom he met
while in Ukraine in the Peace Corps. Their daughter was born there, because
of a snafu with immigration. Victoria is a beautiful and bright baby. My
daughter lives in Flagstaff, AZ, and teaches Yoga.

Pete and I were married just 3 years ago. He has a son who just turned 13,
more than 20 years younger than my own children. And we have Pete's dog,
Stella, a Queensland Heeler, who acts very much like her dingo ancestors. I
never knew a man could be so nurturing. He grew up in a tavern, hunting to
put meat on the table, working in the logging and fishing industries etc.

Very different from my own upbringing as one from the European educated
classes. And very different from my West Coast conservationist leanings,
though my father also grew up hunting to put meat on the table and to
protect the fruit trees.

When I first met Pete, 9 years before we began dating, he had begun a
process of healing and change, learning healing arts and "magic". He is
also a skilled Shaman. At a similar time, I had quit drinking, got
noticeably abusive men out of my life, and begun studying martial arts and
healing arts. Continued my own healing process working with an outstanding
psychologist, especially working on the behavioural addiction of
CoDependency.

Later I developed Chronic Clinical Depression, probably after decades of
Dysthymia (Chronic Low Level Depression). I have been disabled by it now
for at least 5 years. I am not melancholy, and, ironically, I probably am
in the best mental health I've ever been in -- as measured in clarity,
meeting priorities, satisfaction in life, spiritual comfort. It effects me
by eating my mental energy so I only have maybe 6 productive hours a day for
things like taking care of myself and my home (and thus no opportunity to
work).

But I've had art in my life as long as I can remember. My grandfather was
trained as an art restorer and as curator of an art museum. My mother was a
published author and illustrator at age 15, her second book at 17. My
grandmother met immigrants landing in San Francisco and fostered friendships
with many artists and inventors.

My chosen fields of art have always been the 3 dimensional -- wood carving,
clay, etc -- though I also loved fashion illustration, and later on life
drawing. Color and light have always been very tangible thing in my
life, telling whole stories, as if they were words.

I moved to Alaska in '87. I love it for its"cultural anthropology in the
making", as much as for its wild and natural lands. Almost immediately
after arriving in Alaska, I landed in jail for DWI (required jail time for
any offense). And while there met an Athabaskan man who taught me peyote
stitch and introduced me to Shamanism. That was my nudge into more serious
beading and bead collecting. I worked with what I had, on whatever caught
my fancy. I also took a class in silver smithing. And also in (fabric)
weaving.

And then came RCB, with all the eye candy and inspiration, advise on
materials, and information on techniques. And friends!

I currently collect artists made beads of Polymer Clay, and lampwork. And I
work with Precious Metal Clay. Most of my jewelry is strung or made of
simple weaving techniques. I love peyote stitch for its sculptural
qualities, and like it for bowls and other freestanding odds and ends. I
also do bead embroidery, making very sturdy purses tightly stitched.

I don't have much opportunity for going to shows, though occasionally there
are shows in Anchorage (once a year, I think), which is a 7 hour drive from
here, each way. But people in Alaska tend to take a more active part in
their entertainment, probably by necessity, so we have unusually good
resources for the size of town we are. Or maybe I've just been here a long
time.

Life is good.

I've also been working with a friend who developed a radically innovative
engine. There's still a hope that it will make us rich one day; wish I
could count on that!

Hi Celine...No, we haven't met before. Thanks for the info about the Houston
Bead Society. I wouldn't be able to attend Saturday, we'll have a friend
staying over the weekend. I will definitely check out the website you
posted.

I'll be at the Intergem Bead Show on Friday. I'll be tagging along with
three other "power shoppers" and their mission is to check out the jewelry,
not beads...BUT, they've agreed to look at beads with me because they like
my jewelry and know they'll end up with something I've made. :) Which day
are you and Starlia planning to attend?

Thanks again for the info...

This is very hard for me, I don't like doing intros because I'm not
all that interesting or articulate. But in the spirit of being a RCB
regular (yes, I own the shirt! Thank you, Shirley!), here is mine.

Margie, born 10/21/55 and raised in the "city" until my parents became
a "white flight" stat in '65 and moved us to a nearby suburb where
I've been ever since. You can take the girl out of the city but never
take the city out of the girl. I am a loyal southside baseball fan
(go White Sox!) and still consider myself a Chicagoan even it I don't
live in the city proper. So there. :=P~

I was married at 18 and found myself raising my 9 yo nephew at 24
while climbing the corporate financial institution ladder. My ex and
I adopted our son when he was 11, he's now 33, a fire fighter,
paramedic and business admin for the local fire fighter training
school. He's divorced and enjoying life with all the perks that come
with being single and child-free.

This year will be my 8th year of marriage to wonderful, younger man
who will be 40 next week! Finally, we're in the same decade. LOL We
have a lovely, sassy and challenging daughter who will be 6 yo on
Cinco de Mayo (May 5th). Currently I'm a SAHM and will be rejoining
the work force when she enters the first grade.

I've been crafting one thing after another all my life. Come from a
crafty family, my mother and her aunts taught me how to sew and
crochet when I was 5. I did a lot and still do macrame, some sewing
after a long hiatus and crewel embroidery but all that has taken the
back seat to making jewelry (mostly stringing) and wire bending. I
love to do seed bead netting and am currently fine tuning that skill
before moving on to more intricate techniques, patterns and styles.
There's so much to learn! I consider myself a step above a beginner.

Come from a long line of collectors, the first I remember mom
collecting was buttons. I love fondling and stringing them and now I
find myself stringing and collecting art beads! Some things are
instilled while young, some things don't change except the price. <g>

To follow the directions...

I was born in 1977 and don't like sharing my birthday ;).

I also forgot to mention, I love reading and read both fiction and non-fiction
avidly. I also claim to write science fiction though I've never gotten brave
enough to send anything off to potential publishers. (Every time I get close to
feeling something might be "finished" if perhaps not IMO "good enough" some
computer disaster happens and all of my work disappears, followed by a sincere
vow to back things up forever more.)

I also love to draw for pleasure, hang around with dogs, walk, and spend time
with my extended family.

I have many many collections, which I am trying very hard to get rid of. When I
got married I got rid of my paper bag collection and used wrapping paper
collection. I still have way way way to many knickknacks (sp?), "fancy"
pencils, stickers, kitchenware I have no intention of using but think it may
someday be useful for a party, birthday and holiday cards from everyone who ever
sent me any, craft supplies from crafts I have never gotten around to learning,
random piles of paper, etc etc. I can't really see getting rid of books or
family pictures but I have massive amounts of those considering I (hopefully)
have many many years of life left to collect more. (Since we are soon to be
moving into some form of married student housing, these issues are pressing on
me ;) ). I also have grandparents who are very keen on giving me large fancy
things they own which I have no space for, no use for, and have no idea how to
take care of, but which certainly seem worth of becoming family heirlooms.

I have lots and lots of nieces and nephews, the oldest is 34 and the
youngest is 6. I also have a great niece with another on the way!
Children have always played a role in my life and it looks like it
will remain that way for a long time to come.

When you say "share", do mean jewelry? If so, then I was definitely

Unfortunately, now it looks like Starlia may not be able to make it for
personal reasons. But there's a good chance my partner and I will be there on
Friday. Look for a largish woman with long dark-red hair and a tall guy; we may
both be wearing tie-dye, or I might be in a long burgundy dress.

I am so bummed I can't get there. However, we now need funds for DH's very
soon upcoming surgery. He was told that he is going to need it and to quit
therapy. Our co-pay for surgery is more than we expected and we didn't
budget two for the year. Mine was for the shots in the head. Hopefully I
will get more before the year ends so I don't have another co-pay at the
beginning of the year. Yikes!

Carlinda here, hope I'm not too late. I'm 56, for a few more weeks,
birthdate is 5/9/47; an aging flower child (and yes, I've gone to
seed...flower, get it???). In the late 60's and early 70's I had about
40,000 jobs (I'm not a very stable person) then I went on the craft show
circuit as a silversmith. I got burned out, moved to Virginia and joined
regular people with a regular job, moved back to near Columbus, OH, and had
another 40,000 jobs until the middle 90's. I decided I didn't care to live
in reality, and started teaching piano and beginning band instruments. I
also started jewelry making, again, this time with mostly beads. I'm
continuing to teach music and am trying my hand at making some kind of
income with my beadwork. I play bass clarinet in a local community band. And
I follow my nephew around, who's a budding clarinet virtuoso at 17. I live
with my mom, who will soon be 85 and is in great health, and the arrangement
is so far working out just fine. We've been living in this condo together
(along with Daisy, the cockapoo, who really runs the place, and Maria, the
parakeet) for a year.

I have lots of "itises"--arthritis, bursitis, tendonitis, and am diabetic.
The worst affliction I have, though, is procrastination. I do work well
under pressure, however, so I get it done.

I've learned lots from this group and resources, and hope to continue
learning new stuff. My biggest challenge right now is to perfect my
finishing techniques, and to be able to afford better materials for my
jewelry.

That's it...

I'll add mine when I get a second. The file is looking nice and fat, and has

My name is Marissa Undercofler. I have a loving husband of almost 3 years,
named Michael and a cute, smart, loving 2 year old son, named Kyle. I have a
sister named Karen who will be 23 on the 17 of April, who is currently
living and working in Texas, in a Civilian Position as a Chemical Safety
Specialist for the Army, while they pay for her to receive her masters
degree in Chemical Engineering. My birthday is October 14. I will be 25
this year.

I live in Pennsylvania. I have been doing artsy fartsy stuff, as my hubby
calls it, for about the last 10 years or so, but just recently started
focusing more on the beads, and more recently the sewing.

I am currently working on 2 major projects. Both still in the
planning/design stages. I will be beaded 2 sword sheathes. One is just on
one side, the other is all the way around. The one sider is approx. 27
inches long and approx. 20 or so beads across at it's widest point, while
the other is 31 inches long from metal top to metal tip, and approx. 66
beads around at it's widest point, but it tapers down to probably about 10
beads around or so at the bottom.

I think that's pretty much it.

Well, we've just proved (once again) the statistical assertion that you only

We're close to being contemporary; you were old enough to actually *be* a
flower child, I just missed. The funny thing is, I was actually very straight

Well, Celine, I actually became "aware and alive" at the end of the Beatnik
era, and no one has even mentioned that group! When I was 17, I sang in a
trio, another girl and a guy, and we wore white shirts and black tights
(honestly), the guy wore black slacks. Ironed our hair straight. (And I just
recently got a permanent that I paid $56 for...) We sang in coffee houses,
after the poetry readings, and actually got PAID to do that. Now I get paid
NOT to sing. Ah, well...

This is a great thread - it's good to refresh my memory on everyone....not
that I will remember it all! And it's good to see intros for people I don't
know yet. :)
I'll do one for those who don't know me yet.

I'm Kandice (duh) and I have been posting here for a few years. I'm 30, a
Virgo, born in the year of the Ox, (Sept 6th), married to Ken who is 31 and
Scorpio. Ken is a software developer and all around computer geek. We live
in Western Washington, but moved here only a year and a half ago after Ken
was laid off and then got his new job. We love it up here, it's gorgeous -
but we do miss our family and friends back in Portland, OR, where we used to
live. Ken and I have been together since high school, and married in 1997.
Our 7th anniversary is coming up!

We have two kitties (Pumpkin and Melody), who are like our children. Ken
and I cannot have children biologically, but we may adopt later on in life.
I don't normally like to talk about my own health issues in public, but like
many here, I have a few health things that sometimes effect my daily life
online and offline.

Other than beads and beading, I really love to read - mostly science fiction
and fantasy. So does my husband. We are both movie-goers as well. I also
have a secret love of documentaries on Discovery Channel, Sci-Fi, etc.
Anything that has to do with ancient history, archaeology, astronomy, space,
weather, myths and legends, UFOs and the paranormal, etc. I love to watch
and read about. I'm also pagan and enjoy learning about all kinds of
religions and spirituality. I love to learn in general.

I've been beading for about 10 years, and have been making lampwork beads
since July of 2002. I started out making hair jewelry and doing seed bead
work. Off loom weaving and bead sewing and embroidery. I love the peyote
stitch - mostly freeform - and the ndebele stitch. When I first came to
this group, I mostly made jewelry for fun and to sell. It was the people
here who introduced me to the whole world of Swarovski, sterling silver and
lampwork beads. I learned more by reading this group than anything else.
After beginning to post here, there was no turning back for me. I was
hooked big time to finding out everything I could about beads. Lampwork in
particular.

I owe this group a whole lot - they got together and purchased my first ever
lampwork beadmaking class and surprised me with it in the summer of 2002. I
was astounded that people I only knew online would do such a wonderful thing
for me. The class was just the confirmation I needed to know that I had
found something I wanted to do forever.

After taking that class, I apprenticed with another group member (Paulette,
who rarely posts anymore because she is kept happily busy with her new son
Aiden!). Paulette is a very talented beadmaker, and she took me on as her
apprentice, where I learned everything I could in exchange for doing studio
work for her. It was an invaluable experience that I will treasure forever.
My only regret is that we had to move that fall to Washington, so I could
only work for Paulette for a short time.

Ever since then I have been exploring my deep love for glass beadmaking, and
for color and light in general.

Wooooo that was long! :)

So do I. However, we need to remember that it's our culture which makes
15-year-olds into "children". As recently as 100 years ago, it was not at all
unusual for someone that age to be a fully-functioning member of society, and
there were a lot of women getting married and having babies in their mid to
late teens.

I was 17.5 when I became pregnant with my first child, and although it
was most certainly not planned, I rather think I did alright with
things.

I'm of the mind that although it's not a *good* thing to become a
parent so young, there are those who can handle it well. One of my
best friends became pregnant 4 months after I did, at age 15.5, and
she is now married, has had another child, and is living on an Air
Force base with her husband...so please, ladies, try to remember the
ones who can make it thru this sort of thing and come out on top. :)

Probably a lot more babies and mothers died then.

In wild and domesticated animals often the mother doesn't know what to do with
the first clutch/litter/whatever and they end up dying. Probably young mothers
100 years ago had a somewhat better social support system then some non-human
species do...and a better social support system then a lot of young people do
today, in the form of extended families who took care of the children together
to some extent. Even so childbirth and the first few years of a child's life
accepted as being pretty risky, I think...it certainly seems so from the
matter-of-fact way tragedies were talked about in fiction and non-fiction from
the last several hundred years.

In humans today, there are often serious complications with births of babies to
young teenaged mothers. Their bodies often aren't quite large enough or totally
developed enough to bare to term, and they are more suceptible to certain types
of viruses (not to mention bad life choices such as drug abuse, which can cause
problems to the unborn child and early labour. As Kathy N-V points out in her
posting, young mothers are even less prepared to handle this then older ones.

Finally, although young women used to give birth earlier, as you point out, they
also used to get married earlier. Often this would be to an older man, or, if
it were to a young man, the couple would live with the parents for some time.
Again, there would be support (financial and otherwise) for the new family.

Candace,

I hope that my post (which you couldn't have read yet at the time you wrote
yours) didn't offend you. I am sure you and your friend are good mothers, and
that many people succeed at it!

I don't think, however, that having children at such a young age is best for
most people. I guess I would summarize my opinion as "it does not maximize the
best experience for mother and child", and most especially "it does not maximize
the good of society as a whole". Since many young mothers do not seem to be
ready for the responsibilities, they may have a difficult time raising their
children in a way that helps them become responsible, productive citizens.
Often "society" as a whole needs to step in in the form of foster care and
adoption (and the foster care system is way overwhelmed and not a good place for
children to be either), welfare, and providing services at school which were
traditionally taken care of by families (again, something that doesn't seem to
be working very well in a lot of cases, again to the detriment of the children).

A further thought -- In today's society, when education is more important then
ever, it is good to give girls the most time to get their own education, and for
them to be as prepared as possible to help their children get an education. I
am sure some women are capable of succeeding and flourishing while raising their
children at a young age, but it must be a lot of hard work!

RRGGG...again, hope this is not insulting. I am sure you may be a very very
good mother. As with many other issues that border on ethical/moral debates,
there is no "right" answer and there are plenty of opinions to go around until
you meet someone actually in the situation, which invariably changes your mind,
at least about that specific person!

Well good for you Candace for making it work...

I see far too many of the other side of the coin :(( Those are the ones
I was referring to.. Kinda sad that they get themselves into that
situation, drop out of school and before you know it they've had 3/4 kids
to 3/4 different guys and no future and the only thing they know is the
slums they live in and getting the DPB every fortnight..

I know there is another side too though... but IMHO they must be few and
far between.. and that is what makes me sad.. that they usually wreck
their lives and doom their kids to wrecked lives.. but I'm not saying
that this is what happens in every case..

But as you say, teenagers having babies isn't the ideal I would choose for

life I'm a full-time glass beadmaker and mom, and part-time gardener.
(Whenever I can slip into the yard for a moment.) I am somewhat of a
pierced and tattooed former wild thing, partially reformed into a
Respectable Voting Homeowner and Businessperson, Wife to Moxley and
Mother of Juliet, Sam, and Ophelia, ages 6, 4, and nearly 1.

We live in a little old bungalow in inner NE Portland, the part that
used to be "the Ghetto" but is now becoming gentrified. I was born in
North Portland, and am not at all opposed to gentrification! I'll take a
Starbucks in my neighborhood over a drive-by, any day.

I enjoy lots of things, but the things I actually have time for are
torching, cooking, gardening, (I am currently taking a break from
planting paw-paws, to nurse the baby and read this newsgroup. :) I am
Cherokee, Apache, Navajo-Paiute, African, and Welsh descent, and I was
raised Urban indian in a black neighborhood, with a firm connection to
all my roots. I used to be more involved with the Urban indian
community, both in Portland and online, but I am more of a homebody now.

I've been a bit of a beadaholic since I was a little kid, but never have
done much with them... I just like to *have* them! I started lampworking
about eleven years ago, and left my job to take it up full-time just
this past October. I still buy beads though... especially beads from
other lampworkers! I enjoy it here... it's kind of a refuge from my
hectic life as Source-of-Food and Payer-of-Bills. (I have considered
changing my name to Source-of-Food, since it is so descriptive of my
current position in life. <g>)
