For Bettina and Marie -- I have seen some really bad descriptions on ebay,
recently too, talking about venetian glass. Some of the 'venetian' glass
listed was new (and therefore bad) india lampwork. Some were vintage venetian
lampwork pieces -- you know the ones with the flowers and adventurine trails?
-- but were listed as blown glass. They didn't look hollow to me, LOL. But it
raised a question for me.

I have also seen those same type of lampwork beads described as being glass and
enamel. Are they really? I always wondered that myself, they looked like just
glass beads but I could see where someone would think it is enamel on the beads
(the flower part, around the middle). I think we are just talking more bad
descriptions here, but always wanted to ask that question.

Also also, LOL, just what exactly makes a bead "vintage"? In your opinion? I
have to go with the dealer's word (see previous jade posts, LOL, to see what
that is worth sometimes) if I am buying strands of "vintage" beads. I sell
beads as vintage sometimes when I have taken them from a vendome necklace that
I took apart (yes you collectors, I do this all the time).

I remember having a wonderful discussion about this with Peter from the czech
glass booth at the IBS shows. He asked me just exactly where did I think all
these vintage beads had been, all this time, and how could there really be so
many of them on the market? A good point, LOL.

I think a lot of the problem is people who just buy lots of "old stuff" and are
not expert in any one field. They have no clue what they are looking at, don't
know that lampwork exists or what it is, so make the best stab at a
description. I have seen "enameled" and "painted" confused this way too. So
you have to educate yourself.

I always wondered this too - do you think they were just stashed - too good to
get rid of, but not worth much - until the current bead boom?

Becki,

I can certainly spot the lampwork glass from India. I have also played bead
police because it does upset me so. I hate to see someone get beat. I
usually
get no response or a thank you but they do nothing about editing the auction
so I just gave up.
I don't know if enamel is the right term but Marie you are the ultimate
expert on that question. The lovely designs are applied to the glass and may
be enamel paint. I have a friend that uses enamel paint as accents and it's
wonderful but Let's hear from you Marie.... I have seen some of your
magnificent Venetian necklaces and went home drooling.

As for vintage...In my opinion I would say 60's and older is vintage.

Becki...Believe me I know there are stashes of vintage beads still around.
I have a friend who has tons and I just found a source with such wonderful
vintage beads. I just keep looking at them and taking them in and out of
the bags and boxes. I got some gorgeous artglass and some great beads that
are Haskell. The box was marked and when you see them you will see that
they scream Haskell. I think my artglass are Vendome. I seem to remember
some you had up a while back and I think they are the same but then I might
be in a bead coma again. I will be placing them up for auction in the near
future on JustBeads.
So a question for everyone...What does it mean when you start having bead
dreams? This has been happening to me for some time now. I sometimes dream
I found a huge basement just filled with amazing goodies and when I wake up
and realize it's not true...it's quite a drag. Well as I said before, I did
happen upon quite a nice bundle so I'm happy for a little while...until my
next bead fix which will be this weekend in Delaware. I'll see you there
Marie.

This reminds me of a dream I had, in which I had won the lottery! I
called up my favorite supplier and said, "Everything you have in stock,
ship it to me." Then I went down to my favorite craft store, pointed to
the bead aisle and told the astonished clerk, "Pack it all up and deliver
it to my house."

Do you know how disappointing it was to wake up that morning and realize
it had all been a dream? *sigh*

At least you don't have to _inventory_ the results of dream shopping.

I think this is a common misconception. Vintage pieces are over 50 years old
(IOW older than from the 1950s. Anything from the 1960s should be referred to
as *retro.*

Becki,

They won't be at the Delaware show this week. They had the Washington Bead
Society show booked first so they will be there in Washington. They are
called Schey Goldberg. BTW, they sell on JustBeads under the name The Bead
People. She also just opened a store in Brooklyn. It's called Union Max.

When I get everything together I will put a link up so you can check things
out.

Okay so now I'm a bead brain, I think I like that..... :>)

Ok I went I saw two auctions only and had to come back here and post, LOL.

Bettina has up for sale vintage triangle crackle beads, TWO Strands for what
would be a good price for just one strand of these beads. These are the exact
beads used in the Carol Wilcox Wells book that I love, a beaded crystal point
in amber and if you see them you will know EXACTLY what I am talking about. I
would post a link if I could, but I am link-impaired. Go look.

I can confirm. I checked them out, and they're very cool! I
ended up placing bids on some of her other yummy beads.
For some reason, I want everything green these days.
