1861 2 1/2 dollar gold coin
I have an 1861 2 1/2 dollar gold coin (a quarter-Eagle) in a ring. I know that having been in a ring diminishes it's value. But the front appears to have all of the detail that I see in an ad for an uncirculated 1861 quarter-Eagle. The back, of course, has excellent detail. Costa Rica will keep its currency
Costa Rica held its presidential election on Sunday, and former vice president Laura Chinchilla has won. She will be Costa Rica's first female president, which is the angle most of the news reports are taking. But one of the losing candidates would have been numismatically more interesting. Otto Guevara had promised that, if elected, he would... more »

Snowy RCC?
Are most of you folks out there snowed in easterners? Not much RCC action this weekend. If you're like me, you spent part of the day shoveling and the other part recuperating. 24+ inches on my 50' driveway in the N. Virginia suburbs. I'll tackle the sidewalk tomorrow. No snow plow yet. Fifty years ago, this would have brought out the local kids competing to... more »

Dutch lion dollar
  A. Delmonte in his 1967 standard reference The Silver Benelux assigned a date of 1597 to an undated lion dollar from Campen (Delmonte 861). Anybody know why, the basis for this date?

This was purchased by me at Long Beach last May, never got around to regrading it due to a tornado hitting my house in June and delivery problems from Heritage...long story.
