What grading/certification service do you guys recommend for a few
error coins that I have? Talked to Barry Ciociola today and he
recommended getting them certified, but I forgot to ask him which
company he recommended. Thanks for any and all replies.

I would go with ANACS for errors and any coins valued at under $250.

ANACS is excellent for grading lower value errors and varieties.
Personally, I don't know why they aren't as well regarded as PCGS and NGC.
I have many ANACS certified coins in my collection and they all appear to be
properly graded.

Anyone here like ICG for grading?

They are also good. It's hard to get past the good marketing efforts
of PCGS and NGC which results
in many "Kool Aid" drinkers who will not even consider any coin, no
matter how nice, not graded by
either of those 2 services.

At the the TNA show, I purchased an ICG MS66 Morgan dollar

http://cgi.ebay.com/110727806643

Which I offered at $100 under MS66 wholesale, with a 100% refund PLUS
$50 CASH
if it failed to grade MS66 by PCGS or NGC...no takers.

For a while ICG had a reputation of overgrading MS coins. Anything AU
and below were accurately graded but MS were a bit higher than they
should have been. Personally, I haven't seen a recently graded MS
coin in an ICG slab so I can't say whether they've changed or not.

_____________

Guilty. I prefer PCGS for MS coins. I just like their slab better than NGC
with its "clamps", like orange versus grape Kool-Aid. Plus the collection
looks "uniform" with slabs from the same place. PCGS can't hurt when
selling either. Other than a major key, I wouldn't want a circ coin in
anybody's slab. Those I like to handle.

Why not submit it to PCGS yourself?

Perhaps nobody figured you could come up with $50 green money.

At a guess, that had little to do with the ICG holder. Looking
at recent sales, MS66 1881-S's were selling for under your asking
price in both PCGS and NGC holders. Two days ago, an NGC MS-66PL went
begging at $399.00, but it probably didn't help that the seller claimed
it was a "key date."

I own 4 coins plus an HT-70 token in ICG slabs. All are reasonably
graded.
