Convicted coin dealer moved to state prison

Wednesday, November 12, 2008 7:25 AM

Former Toledo-area coin dealer Thomas W. Noe once
again is an Ohio resident, albeit behind bars.

Noe was released from federal prison in Florida
late last month after completing a 27-month
sentence for making illegal campaign contributions
to President Bush in 2004.

But he's now in a state correctional reception
center in Orient awaiting assignment to a prison
to serve an 18-year sentence.

Noe, 54, was convicted in 2006 on theft and other
charges related to his handling of a $50 million
investment in rare coins and other items for the
Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation.

He has appealed that conviction, arguing in part
that he didn't get a fair trial in Toledo and
that his prison term is too harsh.
