I have wondered about this book for a while. Leslie Brock: "The Currency of
the American Colonies 1700-1764. A Study in Colonial Finance and Imperial
Relations". The most useful write-up I can find says: "Arno Press, 1975,
602 pages. This book is the best survey of the monetary history of the
American colonies for the period it covers. It discusses the historical
evolution of colonial currency in each of the colonies, with considerable
discussion of the reactions of British Imperial authorities."

OK, fine. Why is this book, when available, $400 - $600? Anyone got this
and care to tell me what rare pearls of wisdom are contained within to
justify such an absurd price? It is not an antiquarian book having been
printed in 1975.

I guess it's just that nasty old law of supply and demand.
Are you sure this book is actually selling for that price or is it just listed
(for years) on Abe books for that price?

I don't know. I suspect someone will eventually nibble the hook though.
Pas moi.

Nice find. Seems to be a primary source for heavily referenced data. This
is a very interesting reference. Thanks, James - very helpful.

I can not find this book on eBay or any wheres. I've tried the authors
name, abbreviating the title, and using the news papers name. The only
results I get is the news paper/booklets. Do any of you know of a
store, person, or eBay like that I could find this book at? Thanks
for any help!

Here's one place: http://www.amazon.co.uk/

For some of the less popular numismatic texts you may have to go pretty far
afield. I've gotten books from England, France, Norway, Bulgaria, Russia,
India...all over the place.

The work in question is a doctoral dissertation written in 1941, published
in what likely was a very limited edition in 1975, and now available only as
a print-on-demand publication.
