Red Bank jewelry store robbed by 2 men posing as coin salesmen

Two men posing as coin salesmen robbed a Red Bank
jewelry store of an undisclosed amount of money
this afternoon, police said.
The owner of the Little Diamond jewelry store had
arranged to meet with a vendor at 2 p.m. today about
the purchase several gold coins, said Detective
Capt. Stephen McCarthy.
As part of the prospective transaction, the owner,
who was not identified, agreed on a price but told
the two men he needed to test the coins for their
purity, McCarthy said. Objecting to the test, one
of the men pulled out a handgun and demanded the
money stipulated in the agreement, McCarthy said.
After the storeowner turned over the money, the
men ran from the store. No shots were fired and
no one was injured, McCarthy said.
The man who brandished the handgun is described as
a thin male between 45 and 50 years old with a
goatee. He is believed to be 5-foot-7. He was last
seen wearing a baseball type hat and a black jacket
with large front pockets and a hood.
The second suspect is also described as a thin
male, believed to be in his 40s and between 5-foot-8
and 5-foot-9. With a thin build, he was last seen
wearing a gray hat with a full brim around it.
