New Michigan quarter to feature nature scene

There will be another Michigan quarter sometime in the next
decade, and the design will be ... Well, we're not sure.
Here's what we do know:
In December, Congress OK'd new quarters that will feature a
national park or other significant historic or geographic
locale from each state.
Like the popular state quarters, these quarters will roll
out four a year beginning in 2010.
Each state submitted four possible locales -- one preferred
and three alternates. Around Sept. 19, Treasury Secretary
Tim Geithner will make final decisions on each state's choice.
The quarters will be minted according to when the selection
was designated a national park or historic spot, lakeshore,
monument -- whatever.

Gov. Jennifer Granholm picked Pictured Rocks National
Lakeshore as Michigan's preferred choice. The Upper Peninsula
sight was designated in 1966 -- so chances are if that becomes
the Michigan quarter, it'll be minted years from now.
The alternate sites:
. Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge.
. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
. Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary and Underwater Preserve.

I went to Sleeping Bear twice. Both times I wondered how many bottles
the sand could be made into. Best use for it.
Gov. Granholm deserves the opportunity to live by her wits in the
woods for a year. She would appreciate cities a lot more.
Historic sites abound here as everywhere. Several MSNS stalwarts
worked hard over a couple of years to get a memorial for Felix
Schlag's grave in Owosso.

Woodoward Avenue as The Miracle Mile Cruise would have been nice.
Fort Michilimackinac was an 18th century French and British trading
post.
The Ambassador Bridge connects the US and Canada.
Edison was a Michigander (after his family moved here from Milan,
Ohio). As a child, he sold papers on the train from Port Huron to
Toledo and as an adult, he electrified the city of Detroit.
Greenfield Village was the tribute paid to him by one of his more
promising young engineers.
MSU as MAC was (along with Penn), the first Land Grant college under
the Morrill Act.
The University of Michigan has a slew of Nobel Laureates.

‘(i) IN GENERAL- The selection of a national park or other national
site in each State to be honored with a coin under this subsection
shall be made by the Secretary of the Treasury, after consultation
with the Secretary of the Interior and the governor or other chief
executive of each State with respect to which a coin is to be issued
under this subsection, and after giving full and thoughtful
consideration to national sites that are not under the jurisdiction of
the Secretary of the Interior so that the national site chosen for
each State shall be the most appropriate in terms of natural or
historic significance.
Point Two:
I am all in favor of open immigration.
I find more consonance with those who come from Canada in order to
escape socialism, as opposed to those who bring a load of it with
them.

And that is but the first of my embarrassments. My prejudices are my
own, derived from personal experiences given to me by a co-worker who

I was going to counter that the reason Canadians come south is to escape the
cold, but that's all relative, too, we found out this past winter here in
North Lugburz. That said, I think I'll crumble me a croissant before
