Finnan has used the handles Scurvy Dog, Petronius, Voltronicus and RF
and probably others on usenet. He uses one of his real names, either
Bob Finnan or Robert Finnan, only in newsgroups where he promotes his
sales. His full name is Robert W. Finnan.
Finnan is a flamer who has done many long obsesive attacks against
other usenet posters. He nymshifts after he no longer gets responses
to his flames after enough people have killfiled him so creates
another handle to try to force others to see his flames.
Heres a small sample of his shorter flames: "You are a hysterical
idiot." "You can't possibly be as stupid as your posts to this group
make you appear to be, can you," "Go beg a quarter from someone and
buy a personality, loser," "Jeez but you're a pompous twit," "You are
a petty little money-grubber," "You really are an asshole, Billy-boy.
Get a fucking life," "If I could go back in time I'd make your mother
get an abortion," and "Don't you have some babies to kill?"
Finnan attacks different kinds of posters including newbies. But he
appears fixated with those he considers the most prominent. Along with
flaming these people obsessively for long periods of time he has tried
to sabotage their eBay businesses by buying from them so he could
leave negative feedback and by otherwise filling complaints with eBay
about them.
Finnan's eBay ID is hardyboysfan. He may also have other eBay IDs.
Under the hardyboysfan ID he has been a member of eBay since 2001 and
has left 13 negative feedbacks and 13 neutral feedbacks to eBay
sellers. Among his complaints is excessive postage charges which
complains about even when the postage charges are clearly spelled out
in the auction description. Three representative responses by sellers:
1) "BEWARE of hardyboysfan. Block him as Bidder. I have received 6
harrassing emails." 2) "WATCH Out SELLERS! OUTLANDISH Behavior, & all
around RUDE customer." 3) "Refused to pay - dishonest buyer - look out
sellers! Bogus COD scam as well!"
Finnan posts to many different newsgroups including
rec.arts.movies.past-films, rec.arts.movies.current-films,
rec.arts.horror.movies, rec.arts.tv, rec.music.rock-pop-r+b.1950s,
rec.music.rock-pop-r+b.1960s, rec.music.rock-pop-r+b.1970s,
alt.gossip.celebrities, rec.collecting.coins, rec.collecting.paper-
money, rec.arts.comics.strips, alt.politics.libertarian, alt.fan.rush-
limbaugh, rec.travel.cruises, alt.books.nancy-drew, alt.fan.doc-
savage, rec.arts.books.marketplace, rec.arts.books.childrens,
rec.arts.mystery, alt.books, rec.collecting.books, alt.marketplace,
rec.collecting.sport.baseball, alt.sports.baseball.ny-yankees,
rec.gambling.poker.
Finnan attacks other prominent people. He has an "I Hate Tim McCarver
Home Page" (www.bobfinnan.com/TimMcCarver). Finnan says that people
can "read about the worst announcer in baseball" and that they can
"insult him" on the message board. The message board gets little
traffic.
Finnan appears to have a fixation with adolescent fiction from his
childhood. He sells Hardy Boys, Tom Swift and similar books and
memorabilia. He has a web site (www.bobfinnan.com) where he sells
these books. At this site he asks for PayPal donations to support the
site despite this being a commercial site set up to sell merchandise.
The site has pages that are dozens of screens long, is poorly
organized, has few navigational aids and has the appearance of a ca.
1997 site, which is the year it was started. In selling his
merchandise he offers no returns - "ALL SALES FINAL!" Finnan also
sells through Amazon.com and Amazon.ca in Canada. He doesn't sell
through eBay though he did early on.
Finnan runs a Hardy Boys discussion forum through Yahoo Groups called
HardyBoys (groups.yahoo.com/group/HardyBoys). Its designed to promote
the sale of his books and to host discussion.
Finnan has a MySpace page (www.myspace.com/62994353) which he created
in March 2006. He has one friend.
Finnan's email addresses include b...@bobfinnan.com and
fwd...@yahoo.com. The fwd...@yahoo.com is from Franklin W. Dixon
which is the collective pseudonym that the Hardy Boys books were
written under according to Wikipedia.
Finnan was born in April 1950 which makes him 60 years old. He is
single. He lives in a rented apartment in an old building in a middle-
class town called Sea Cliff on Long Island.

Can't say that any of the above sounds particularly damning.
If I did facebook, I'd "friend" RF.
Buckingham Palace is an "old" building. The terms of H.M. the Queen's
tenancy are a bit ambiguous too.
I'd say that RF is doing a good job of getting under somebody's skin,
which is a pleasant enough thought.

aroused by insulting people on internet newsgroups." But maybe there
are a better ones?
We see this as the very beginning of a biography that could take years
to complete. If anybody would like to add to this feel free at any
time now or in the future. Maybe some people now or later know him in
person or knows of people who know him and can share some interesting
stories about this very interesting usenet antihero.
Who knows what he has done offline. There are pay sites out there such
as Intelius and others that could be worth checking for criminal and
sex offender check, lawsuits, judgments, liens, bankruptcies and so
on. Who knows where this could lead to maybe even a "I Hate Bob Finnan
Home Page" that would be a nice cousin to his "I Hate Tim McCarver
Home Page."

I wouldn't call him an "anti-hero". Merely being a whining, devious,
insulting, egomanaical sociopath does not elevate one to that status.
Think of those who are in your pantheon of genuine "anti-heroes," oly.
Whether or not any of us agrees or disagrees with them, they actually are
doing something. Finnan sits in his lonely room and spews bile. That's not
an anti-hero by my definition.

How 'bout you just move along and spare us, or at least me, any more of
this.
I'm fully capable of finding and ignoring assholes all by myself. I don't
need anyone's biography. I don't see this as being any type of public
service, either. YOU end up being, simply, a different kind of annoyance.
One I'd also prefer to do without.

Do the psychiatric_wards now allow an hour of internet time like
prisoners get? This could explain all the above and below.
