Those two particular albums are quite scarce, so much so that I
haven't offered a single example of either title on eBay in the
twelvish years I've been selling LoC and other albums there. Any of
the LoC albums numbered above Volume 36 are quite hard to find.
I've been lucky enough to have offered ONE EACH of volumes 39 (General
Large Cent Size), 41 (Early Dimes 1796 - 1891), 45 (Early Half Dollars
1794 - 1836), 48 (General Half Dollar Size), 52 (Silver Coins of the
World) and 53 (All-Purpose Coin Album), all of which brought Very
Healthy Prices ...

I wonder what the press run of those 37+ titles actually was. Judging from
their scarcity I'd have to guess 200 or fewer, and it's hard to imagine
profitability considering the cost of a complete jig-up. I'm sure you're
aware of the later editions of the LOC albums for type sets. The 1969
edition has a green cover for vol. 33 and a blue cover for vol. 34. Several
changes were made over the original metallic covered albums. The commems
and Gobrecht dollar were taken out and all three 3c silver varieties were
included, along with the clad coins and a couple of Kennedy halves. But
I've not ever seen the 1964 edition, so I can't say whether it was a repeat
of the 1959 or more like the 1969.
Other than just having the early dollar album as a curiosity or to fill out
a set of LOC, I wonder if the new owner has a Gobrecht dollar to put in it.
Or maybe it was David Lange preparing to write another book.

Hey James, I found five others like this at a thrift store a few years
back. Here is what I found at this thrift store. Morgan dollars,
Seated Dimes, Indian Head Pennys, Barber Quarters, and a Half Cent
album. Would any of these bring a premium?

Depending on condition, any LOC album is collectible, but in that group, the
Seated Dimes and Half Cents are very hard to find. Now, you're sure they
are Library of Coins with the acetate slides that allow you to see both
sides of the coins, and not the blue Whitman albums, yes? The reason I ask
is that the LOC album for Seated Dimes is actually not called that, but
rather is one of a two-volume set titled Early Dimes.

You can see the coin on both sides but, I'm going on what the books
look like on the out side and whats on the picture on eBay. Yes they
are all 5 by LOC. Is it possible that they could be only copies? The
nice part so far though Is I found a 1911-S barber dime stuck between
two coin section in the barber dime book.

Lucky you! You didn't mention the Barber Dimes album in your OP. Or is
that what you meant when you said Seated Dimes? How about the Half Cent
album? How nice is that?

Sorry there were a few whitman folders in the box I bought, the coin
was in one of them. I was tired last night when typing the message and
didn't think what I was saying. Oh and about the condition, the seated
dime and half cent folders have damnage on the outside of the album.
Mostly around blinding of the albums. The other 3 are almost in
perfect condition.

Volume 8 on the seated Dime and I can't read the numbers on the Half

That is puzzling. I can find no reference to a volume 8 in the Library of
Coins series, but volume 7 was Jefferson nickels, and volume 9 was Barber
dimes. Can you find a copyright date inside the album? And the name of the
manufacturer?

My records show that Library of Coins Volume 8 is "General Nickel Size
Coins" ...
I don't show any Library of Coins volume for Seated Dimes. Volume 41
is "Early Dimes 1796 - 1891, Part 1", covering the 1796 - 1853 dates,
and Volume 42 is "Early Dimes 1796 - 1891, Part 2" (which I've never
even seen let alone owned) presumably covering the remaining dates.

Some years ago I was fortunate to win the two-volume set for Early Dimes in
bright, mint condition in an eBay auction. IIRC the selling price for the
joblot was about $110. I got Half Cents and Half Dimes about the same time,
also mint in the pages, but a bit weak on the spine lettering.
I've never seen either component of the two-volume set for Early Quarters,
nor have I seen the three-volume set for Early Half Dollars all at the same
time.
It's interesting to see what constituted a "complete set" of a given coin
series back in that era. Mostly it seems to be contemporary Redbook
varieties, but there are quite a few exceptions, when you start actually
comparing. It appears that LOC took its cue from the old Wayte Raymond
albums of the 40s and 50s. Crikey, to complete the half cent album, you'd
have to spring for both varieties of 1796.

Readers are advised that this list is from the 1969 edition of LOC Volume
34, Type Set of U.S. Coins, Part 2. It shows the new configuration of
several products:
1) Commemoratives - see following note
2) U.S. Type Set, 2 Volumes, green and blue covers, respectively. The
Gobrecht dollar has been moved to Album #50, Liberty Seated Silver Dollars
1836-1873, while the Isabella quarter and the Lafayette dollar are now in
Volumes 29 through 32. Three varieties of 3c silver, more Lincolns cents,
the clad coinage, and two Kennedy halves are now called for in this
ensemble.
3) Early U.S. series are represented in Volumes 36 through 51. The press
runs of these must have been exceedingly small, judging from the rarity of
those numbers today. It is entirely possible that remaindered copies of
these sit stockpiled somewhere, as the era of LOC was pretty well over by
the time these were made. The albums for half cents and large cents seem to
be more plentiful than those for other denominations, and call for many
Redbook varieties.
4) Album #60, originally for Canadian cents 1858 to date, has been
subdivided into Vol. 60 for large cents alone, while Volume 60A is for small
cents alone. I have seen this 60A, but never the revised 60.
5) Album #61, originally for Canadian 5 cents 1858 to date, has been
subdivided into Vol. 61 for 5c silvers alone, while Volume 61A is for 5c
nickels alone. I have seen both of these.

FYI, just in case you think otherwise, there aren't nearly as many

It's mainly just the contributors to this forum who are reading this
