Coins from the Spanish treasure galleon Atocha, which
sank in a hurricane off the Florida Keys in 1622, will
be on display from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 28 and
March 1 at the Cape Coral Historical Museum, 544
Cultural Park Blvd., Cape Coral.
The famous Mel Fisher Atocha coins were recovered from
the shipwrecked galleon that was transporting gold
and silver coins and bars from the new world to Spain
in 1622.
Mel Fisher's salvage company retrieved the authentic
coins and other memorabilia to be displayed at the
museum.
