The news group "rec.collecting.coins", is
not regulated in global newsgroups. In fact,
any newsgroup located in global newsgroups,
are not controlled by any one internet service
provider. All are tied together by several
newsgroup internet servers all over the world.
It is the "wild, wild, west" of uncontrolled
free speech.
One of the biggest problems with global
newsgroups, is the farming of E-MAIL address
for spammers. You may have notice in reading
the full message header of this message, is
the fact that I do not use my real name or
E-MAIL address. It only adds to the number of
spam E-MAIL messages that I could be receiving
later. A lot of people have move-on to set up
coin groups in Yahoo groups, Google groups,
PCGS, and other locations that tends to control
the content via web access. Global newsgroups
allows users to "crosspost" on several newsgroups
at the same time. Again, no one controls global
newsgroups.
When you posted you message above, you used
"Thunderbird Newsgroup Software version 2.0.
You also posted your message through Cox
newsgroup server, and your web site listed above
was registered through "Go Daddy Dot Com" in
Scottsdale Arizona. There is not much privacy
when it comes to global newsgroups or the
internet in general.

Hi, George. I ask the same question. There are probably several reasons.
I think there has been a snowball effect. The lawsuit of a few years ago
may be one of the several reasons (although we had already lost some great
participants prior to the lawsuit; Dr. Preston, BiggFredd, David Ryan,
Stujoe and of course Larry Calder and Jim Stonefeel), causing some
knowledgeable posters to stop posting or greatly reduce their quantity of
posts. When that happened the noise and clatter automatically became a
greater percentage of the total number of posts. Those who have stopped
posting most recently seemed to have done so because of the greater
perponderance of noise, which is why I say a snowball effect.
I haven't posted as much as I used to because my posts generally ended the
thread as well as started the thread ( iows, no responses). I also don't
feel I communicate as well as I once felt I did (feel and felt as opposed to
don't and did; not saying I could ever communicate well). It also seems
that I have greater distractions with everyday life than I once did. Just
this morning I had an employee's boyfriend threaten to ram my building with
his vehicle and I have had two visits with the police. I can't do anything
but the employee suggested her boyfriend may damage my car or harm me in
some way. Oh boy, just a typical day.

Probably because that's what the few people who still post here want to
see and do. It's silly to hear from so many passive "lurkers" lamenting
about there being so few coin-related posts anymore. Post something about
coins yourselves, guys! If you're not going to participate, nothing will
change. This type of group will always have to put up with flames, trolls,
etc., but even some of those can be interesting to watch for awhile. If all
you're doing is checking the messages here once in a while, the state of the
newsgroup shouldn't bother you that much.

The trolls are not the problem, the troll feeders are the problem, if you
are one make it your New Year resolution to stop.
We get troll posts because the trolls know that there are a few here dumb
enough to feed them regularly.
I suggest that anyone who feeds a troll, if they have enough back bone, also
post an apology. Billy

Fact is, Billy boy, is that YOU are a troll.
It's rare that you ever post anything other than your declarations of
who is a troll, a troll enabler, etc.

Billy, I can only agree with you. Last year at about this time,
someone started a thread about New Years resolutions. Mine was not to
get caught up in flame-fests or troll feeding. To the best of my
knowledge, I have kept my resolution. Believe me, it hasn't been easy!
My resolution for 2009 just might be to continue my 2008 resolution.

Jefferson nickel collection from going thru change. But the days of filling
holes has been replaced by chunks of metal in plastic holders and when I first
collected coins "cleaned" wasn't even in considered. Perhaps its all a sign of

values over the past 8 years. Got tired of reading about pastors and Repub
senators oiling up their page boys and sneaking out of their wife's bed to
go visit their daughters' bed in the middle of the night. Then they go
fight against abortion after they get up the next morning.
