Guam quarter in change

I got a Guam quarter in change yesterday. Not sure from where, but
most definitely from one of the 3 supermarkets I had just shopped at.
If I had spotted it earlier I would have asked about any full rolls. I
will scour the area (stores and banks) later today after work to see
if I can score any rolls.

This was in the eastern Los Angeles county area. CA

What city/state?

My search last night at the stores I had been shopping at and all
banks in the area resulted in ZERO additional Guam quarters.

I'll keep looking and calling.

IIRC, the USTreasury/Federal Reserve reverted to distributing new quarters
using the more normal 'as and where needed' process, like most regular coins
are, for its 2009 and later production. The state quarters program produced
such a HUGE oversupply of quarters that it will take years for the USA's
economy to absorb them all (how many years' supply are in the vaults as of now?).

Until that surplus is exhausted, expect all of the forthcoming new varieties
of quarters to have microscopic mintages (see:
http://www.usmint.gov/about_the_mint/coin_production/index.cfm?action=production_figures&DCTQuarter=DCT
for the WOW numbers so far, especially for Guam and American Samoa) and to be
a real challenge to find in circulation.

And the economic downturn has resulted in many people cashing in their
water jugs, mayo jars and coffee cans full of change. This has
resulted in a huge back-wash of old coins, so the Fed does not need to
order new coins as often.

And some bank branches get large deposits from merchants or the above
mentioned coin hoarders. They seldom ship them out if they are rolled
- they simply keep them for the others who request coin.

I got another one at a giant supermarket on Sunday, so I asked them
for rolls. They were willing to sell me their last 4 rolls of Guam.
Machine wrapped in paper wrappers. I will continue to look for more,
but none of the banks have them and even the Wal-Mart and other nearby
supermarkets did not have any.

We never saw any P.R. quarters out here in L.A.
