You are reading this message from global newsgoups,
in the newsgroup "rec.collecting.coins". This means
on one controls what is posted in this group. This
group is not censored on whom, or what, is posted. Free
speech is not controlled. Global newsgroups allow
individuals to "crosspost" on multiple groups at the
same time. It does not stop any individual from using
bad language, or flaming out others on there posting.
It also allows you to keep (and change), your identity.
Users (in this case trolls), can highjack someone else
Identity and go flame out someone's posting.
Usenet newsgroups (global newsgroups) has always
been like this since it creation.
If you have spent time reading the postings in this
group, you may have found out who often flames out
people, and crosspost on multiple groups.
Below is a list of (web base), newsgroups you can
access from Yahoo. Yahoo does not create these,
groups. Individuals Yahoo members create and manage
these group. All of these are free to join. Most of the
postings are manage. It better words, "no flaming", or
"crossposting". Depending on the group managers,
and how the group is manage, a member can be
removed if they flame out, or used bad language
in there posting, or response to other postings.
You do not need a Yahoo Profile. However it helps.

them, I used to but there are only so many
hours in a day and I have a number of other non numismatic interests
online that also keep me busy.
At some point you have to cut back in order to fit a number of things
into your life. I rarely have time to read
coin auction catalogs any more it seems.

years, I try once a year to find good reason to my two favorite
moderated sites:

Both are very well established, nicely moderated by experienced
helpers, lively and informatiive.
Coin People has a link to

getting email to the moderators.
For ancients and other similar, FORVM has a discussion board as well
www.forumancientcoins.com
FORVM is highly visible in the ancients community and gives its own
awards to sites of merit.
I also lurk on as many of the other boards as I can and I have few
complaints about how any of them is run. The nice thing about the
marketplace is that there are so many stalls.

Not only do my long-held username and password no longer work there, but if
I try to register under different circumstances, I get a message that says
that they are no longer accepting new applicants.

Probably coz they got a circle jerk going on in addition to the "cointalk"
and new applicants might be disgusted.

Thanks for posting that list. I see a couple groups (such as the group
for error coins) that I might check out after the first of the year. I
do like Yahoo Groups since I can filter and read messages in email as
time permits, or even go to nomail without actually unsubscribing. I
have never cared much for web forums.

I agree about CoinTalk and CoinPeople. I don't know about new members
now since I joined both when they first started. I've lurked both for
a long time and am only now getting back to posting.
