I'd suggest maybe watching that Butch Cassidy movie again. Those floating
bills looked undamaged. :>)
There is a machine built especially to do that, it looks kinda like a
bagel slicer. I'll bet someboday in an area shop or even the local
coin club could accomodate you.

Use a hack saw to remove the edges.

I don't show off my 1921 Peace high relief with the nick in the rim too
often. But since then I put them in a vice and apply pressure. Makes a nick
crack sound also.
