Six indicted in big burglary ring

Six men linked to a multimillion-dollar burglary
ring were indicted this week after a yearlong
investigation into property thefts in posh
neighborhoods, Franklin County prosecutors said
this morning.
Kenneth Koon of 539 Hiltonia Ave. is scheduled
for arraignment in Common Pleas Court this
afternoon. He is charged with 12 felonies that
include burglary, theft, receiving stolen
property and safecracking.
Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien said
Koon is thought to be the fence who took in
most of the stolen property and paid cash to
the thieves. The stolen property has been
traced as far away as Florida, and much has
never been recovered.
"We had one stolen coin that was passed in a
strip club in Florida. We've been working with
the FBI to trace back its origins," O'Brien
said.
Warrants have been issued for five others: Adam
Morgan of 1037 Beaujolais Place; James Shannon
Woods of 1060 Richter Rd.; Bruce Manahan of
3956 Lynward Rd.; Michael Haas of 1642
Eastfield Dr.; and Mark Mayle of 542 S.
Oakley Ave.
A seventh suspect, James Lee Richesson of 1091
Harrisburg Pike, is serving a 13-year prison
sentence after pleading guilty to six burglary
and racketeering charges last month. He and
three others who have already pleaded guilty
have agreed to testify against the others.
The other three were identified as Scott
Keaveney of 496 W. Rich St., who is serving 10
years in prison for racketeering and
burglary; Aaron Eiland of 421 Larcomb St.,
who is serving one year for receiving stolen
property; and Todd Fischer of 2139
Keltonshire Ave. , who is serving five years
for three burglaries.
Woods, Mayle and Richesson were arrested in
January after a Hilliard homeowner reported
nearly $1 million stolen from his Shire Cove
Road home last December. The men posted bond
and were released.
In the Shire Cove break-in, thieves stole a
1,500-pound safe containing cash, gold bars
and precious coins along with firearms and
other items that have been valued at more
than $1.8 million, O'Brien said.
Mayle and Richesson also were accused of
stealing an ATM from a business on the
Northwest Side in November 2007. The machine
contained more than $5,000, police said.
"They would target homes that were believed
to have substantial value in them," O'Brien
said. "Some of them worked in home improvement
and had contacts there, and some worked in
landscaping."
