OTTAWA: Royal Canadian Mint has introduced a new range of gold
coins that depicts Pitcher Plant, the official flower of
Newfoundland and Labrador - is being launched by the mint, with
botanical artist Julie Wilson designing the item.
It will be limited to 1,400 pieces worldwide and will retail
for CA$2,149.95 (£1,199.46).
In addition, the Red Maple is also being introduced, which
weighs 1.25th of an ounce and is the smallest gold coin ever
produced by the mint.
Priced at CA$99.95, the currency is a homage to the most
abundant tree in eastern Canada.
"The Royal Canadian Mint is proud to pay tribute to compelling
symbols of Canadian identity [that] speak to Canada's heritage,
culture and values," president and chief executive officer Ian
Bennett stated.
Coins produced by the mint continue to be "among the world's
best" he added.
Earlier in the year, the mint launched its first collectable
coin of 2009, including a piece limited to 1,000.
