For brass coins, I like how they look. :)

SNOHOMISH -- A lot of people want a piece of
Snohomish.
Sets of commemorative brass coins celebrating
the town's 150th birthday sold out and another
set is on order, said Debbie Emge, the city's
economic development manager. A total of 150
sets have sold so far.

Snohomish is selling commemorative
coins to raise money for its 150th
anniversary celebration in 2009.
Snohomish resident Todd Elvig designed
the five coins.
"As long as they continue to sell, we'll mint
the next set," she said.
Most of the buyers are from Snohomish, but Emge
has received calls from collectors as far away
as Pennsylvania. Some people are buying coins
as mementos for their children.
The sets of five coins feature founding father
E.C. Ferguson, a steamboat, steam engine,
airplane and automobile. The coins reflect themes
tied to Snohomish's beginnings. A set of five
coins costs $75 plus another $5 for shipping.
Snohomish didn't become an incorporated city
until 1890, but the first white settlers built
homes in the area in 1859.
Proceeds of the coin sale go toward paying for
150th anniversary celebration events, including
a birthday bash planned for March 7. The bash
will feature Snohomish musicians, a community
breakfast and historic stories.
A company in Virginia is minting the coins. Forms
for ordering a set are available at the city's
Web site or those interested in the coins can
call Emge at 360-282-3197.
