A Busy Year Protecting Your Right to Collect
In March of this year the ACCG presented a 61 page paper, "Coin Collectors
and Cultural Property Nationalism," at the "Portable Antiquities:
Archaeology, Collecting, Metal Detecting" conference, organized by the
Council for British Archaeology (CBA) and the International Centre for
Cultural and Heritage Studies (ICCHS), and held at the University of
Newcastle (UK). The paper was well received and would be interesting reading
for anyone desiring to learn the background behind the "Great Cultural
Property War" that presently divides coin collectors and archaeologists. A

Co-authoring this important paper was a major effort.
Other significant events which also consumed a lot of time included
preparation for public hearings at the State Department concerning requests
for import restrictions from the Italian and Greek governments. Roman and
Greek coins are so important to ancient coin collecting, that inclusion of
coins in these agreements would have dire consequences for collectors. Very
large numbers of negative comments regarding the prospective inclusion of
coins were submitted by collectors and dealers in both cases. At this point
the decisions are pending.
Changing Computers
Classical Coins installed a new computer system in April, involving a
transition from a 32 bit operating system to a 64 bit operating system. This
proved to be far more complex than had been anticipated, and although
processing and shipping orders was not affected, we were unable to perform
administrative tasks (such as updating our website to delist sold coins)
until late September. Everything is up to date now, and we are back at work
listing new coins. Apologies to any customers who were inconvenienced.

This listing includes partly cleaned and uncleaned Seleukid bronze coins
from ancient Israel, which circulated in the Holy Land at the time of the
Maccabees, and six groups of late Roman bronze coins, offering outstanding
values to collectors. These lots make excellent gifts for beginning
collectors.
Many collectors don't seem to realize that there is much more to Classical
Coins than what appears on our New Listings and Premier Coins pages. We
encourage you to explore the entire site, where hundreds of other attractive
coins await your perusal. We have been so busy that previous listings have
not been repriced to the current market, and many bargains remain to be
found. If a coin you are searching for is not listed, that does not mean
that we don't have it. We always have a large inventory of coins and
numismatic literature not yet listed for sale, and will gladly help
customers fill want lists, or locate difficult to find coins. For
