Strange tarnish on 1986 Gold Eagle???

I recently had my 1986 1/10th ounce Gold Eagle slabbed by PCGS at
MS69. Never been touched by me. The obverse is toning around the
Lady Liberty in a strange copperry blur???? Is this normal?

I would think so, I've seen reddish toning before. It is most likely
from the copper in the alloy.

I have a couple of slabbed $5 AGEs which exhibit the same orange-red toning the
OP writes of.
It is, as you posit, probably the copper in the alloy.

I have a First Spouse that has a similar blemish and I thought the first
spouse's were made of 24K and shouldn't have any copper being pure gold!

Even 24kt, .999 or .9999 Gold has traces of copper. Its not 100%
being that its 99.9% I have seen copper spots on 24kt but not this
blur thing I have on the eagle.
