11:20 a.m. - U.S. Mint approves '09 quarter design for Guam, other
territories

Pacific Daily News
December 16, 2008

The United States Mint yesterday announced six new
designs that will grace the quarters issued next
year to honor Guam, the District of Columbia,
Puerto Rico, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin
Islands and the Commonwealth of the Northern
Mariana Islands.

The coins will be put into circulation in
approximately two-month intervals throughout
the year. Guam's quarter will be released in the
third quarter of 2009. The design for Guam's
quarter includes an outline of the island of
Guam, a latte stone once used as building
support in ancient Chamorro society, and a
flying proa. The words "Guahan I Tanó
ManChamorro," or Guam, Land of the Chamorro,
are also inscribed on the coin's reverse. The Guam
quarter reverse was designed by U.S. Mint AIP
Associate Designer David Westwood and sculpted by
United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Jim Licaretz.

Other than the design for DC, I like them all.

And I see by the US Mint release schedule, that the Territories
Quarters proof set is scheduled for release on January 5th. So It
won't be long before we see the actual coins.

I am wondering if that date is going to stick. Considering they just
finalized the PR and AS designs I find it hard to believe they will have
the dies and production going in time to get those proofs out. I wonder
if they will just start taking orders and placing them in the queue for
delivery when the product is ready. Then again, where there is a will
there is a way.
