One more tired TV piece touting billions of $$ savings to taxpayers (who
else?) by simply using dollar coins. When was the last time that you, as a
taxpayer, ever tasted the fruits of one of these purported "tax savings"?
And those dollar coins can last 30-40 years and then can be melted down and
reused-- at no additional cost of course-- implying that paper money is not
recyclable. Why melt down 40-year old coins at all? Have we found this to
be practical or necessary before with our non-silver coins in modern times?
If our coins have ever worn down after 40 years to the point they're no
longer useable, they certainly won't from now on, considering that so many
of them spend most of their lives in storage at home. The Mint should be
content to reap big profits from sales to collectors and let human nature
take its course with the dollar coins.

I get mid-60's dimes and quarters in change frequently and they are
nowhere near to being worn down.
The clad composition is pretty tough and they will probably last another
40 years.
But I digress.
The fact is that people simply don't want to use dollar coins and won't
use them unless the Treasury ceases the production of dollar bills.
Everyone knows it, including the Gubmint.
I personally don't like to use $1 coins as they are heavy, fall out of
my pcket and can't be used to tip strippers.

As I keep saying - STOP BEING SO %*#&#@! *CHEAP*!!!! Use $5 FRNs and you'll
be amazed at how fast and how much the quality of the performances improve.

:-)

There are reasons why the lights are kept so low in the $1 joints.... :-o

How could anyone enjoy a lap dance with a pocket full of dollar coins?
Someone could get hurt.

Agreed on all points except the last. Tipping a stripper, especially
a lap dancer, with coins could be an, um, interesting experience.
Think about it. ;-)

Is it getting warm in here, or is it just me?

It would be funny watching the stripper dragging coins off stage in
fish net stockings! :D

Again, WHY ON EARTH ARE YOU GUYS BEING SO #%@*&@! *CHEAP*???? Use fives and
you'll be amazed at how much and how fast the performances improve. Using one
dollars to tip them is so 1960s and is why the lights are kept so very low in
some of those places.

The $5 FRN of today is the $1 FRN of the 1960s/early 1970s.

Actually, still GOING to those places anymore is so "1960's". Rewind the
stereotype of the lonely businessman or serviceman away from home.
