35,000 fake coins seized, three held

KAJANG, Fri: The police arrested two men and seized 35,000
counterfeit coins in 50 sen denomination and two machines
used to mint the fake coins from a car in Taman Restu,
Jalan Semenyih here yesterday.
Kajang police chief Shakaruddin Che Mood said the duo
aged 30 and 44 were stopped by the police as they were
behaving suspiciously.
The police found the counterfeit coins wrapped in 35
plastic packages in a Proton Wira they were travelling
in at 5pm, he said here today.
Following the seizure, he said the police picked up
another man in his 30s at a house nearby and seized 200
more counterfeit coins in 50 sen denomination at 11pm.
Shakaruddin said the police were investigating where
the fake coins were destined for distribution.
"We have sent the fake coins to Bank Negara for analysis,"
he said, adding that, the suspects were remanded for
four days to facilitate investigations. -- BERNAMA
