I am surprised there is no discussion on the newsgroup about this. There
will be a "s" mint mark on one of the two uncirculated SAE coin. There is
a 5 set limit.

The Mint's web site shows it's $300. With all of the varieties, it
makes me wonder if any of them will turn out like the 1995-W SAE.

Got my order in this morning ... only took about forty minutes
to navigate through the Mint's website, most of which was spent
waiting for the next page to load and/or hitting refresh once it
wuz obvious that the page was stalled and about to timeout ...

(And partially my fault since I hadn't updated my credit card
expiration date ... should have done that last week when the
website wasn't overloaded ...).

I wonder how long it's going to take to sell out all 100,000
sets, and REELY REELY wonder what the aftermarket for these sets
is going to be ... I made a ton of money on the three-piece
sets in 2006 and am hoping for a repeat experience. (Of course,
the mintage was lower in 2006 and silver was MUCH lower in price,
so I'm not expecting the same percentage results this time.)

I placed an order for the 2006 sets after they reportedly had sold out and
received three sets a short time later. Even though it is listed as a
sellout, I ordered one of the 25th Anniversary sets just to see if I can get
lucky twice.

I did manage to get my order submitted online after about 15 minutes, but
the 25th set is listed as "backordered" in the confirmation email. You are
indeed lucky if you beat the backorder group.

A number of the original orders for the 2006 sets were cancelled when
the Mint discovered that some buyers had used alternate names and credit
card numbers to get around the published "per person" limits.

I suspect that the same process will be used this time, and that a good
number of people currently on the "Wait List" will end up getting sets
as well.

FWIW, reports on some Internet sites indicate that the sell out of
100,000 sets was accomplished by about 4:30 Eastern Time, or after
about four-enna-half hours on sale ...

I ordered my 5 sets today. I logged in at 11:50 (EDT) and already the
site was bogged down. It wasn't until 1:15 that I had completed my order.
I think the mintage in 2006 was 250K vs 100K for the 25th anniversary.

also included three of the annual 2011 quarter & dollar proof sets in the

of 5 is not being exceeded, so some people who were wait-listed may wind up
getting sets after all.
Anyhoo, when I ordered the ASE Set, the product page said that shipping would
not commence until "late November", indicating they were not prepared to ship
immediately, hence the backorder.
I probably got my order in way before the wait-list cutoff time (alleged to be
around 4:30PM Eastern.)
If I get my sets, I'll be glad and I'll sell them ASAP.
If I don't get them, oh well.

My waitlist order went from "On Hold" to in process. I think if the
order says "in process" we are all good to go. Letst just hope the
coins don't arrive flopping around in the case like the UHR gold coin

Maybe to appeal to those who don't want to spend an extra $2,000 or more.

But the option would appeal to both...silver and gold options. The US
Mint is way behind in product development as compared to the stunning
coins coming out of British Royal Mint and Perth Mint. And at the
rate things are going...one could buy 2 gold items and sell one to pay
for both.

You may be right, but myself I still have to budget to afford the
traditional annual proof & mint sets. Any special gold sets would be out of
my price range, and if they were part of a silver set, I would have to pass
on that one, too. And yes, compared to the Brits and Canadians, the US Mint
collector output does seem modest. But as I look at the weekly two-page
Canadian product ad in the coin pubs, I think I prefer our approach better.

I have been dissapointed in recent Royal Canadian Mint product. IMO
color is cool on coins...but not as a substitute to good design.
Also, RCM is using some new tech where a computer scans and
sculpts...a real person onlt touches up. It shows...the coins have
very choppy line oriented designs.

But my thoughts for a 25th Ann gold eagle would be a completely
separate product from the silver eagles. Maybe a 1/4 ounce gold
reverse proof.

I am collector of coins from Australia and Canada (amongst others),
and have had the opportunity to speak to the representatives of the
RAM and the RCM at the ANA conventions, stating that they are going to
'kill the golden goose' with all the NCLT crap they have been issuing
in recent years.

Just for example, Australia began issuing circulating A$1 coins in
1984 and issued just one a year every year until 1993 when they began
to issue them with 'mintmarks' (more like a privy mark). These
'mintmarked' coins are usually issued at coins shows held in different
cities in Australia, taking a circulating coin and commemorating the
show by stamping them with a 'privy mark' of that city with press
which is brought there for that purpose.

In 1993 there were 4 dollar coins, all identical except 3 had an added
mark of C, S, and M for Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne. In 1994 they
issued the standard 'mob of kangaroos' dollar and 3 with a different
design celebrating 10 years of the dollar coin, again with the C, S
and M privy marks. 1995 saw the 'mob of kangaroos' dollar and a
'Waltzing Matilda' dollar with 4 mintmarks! (add B for Brisbane) 1996
had no 'mob of kangaroos, but had 6 identical dollars, 5 with
mintmarks (add A for Adelaide. Other privy marks used in later years
are E, G, and TV - to celebrate 50 years of TV in Australia).

6 different dollar coins were issued in 1997 through 1999; 2000 had 7
different, one available only as part of a PNC; 6 different again in
2001; 5 different in 2002; 7 different in 2003; 6 different in 2004; 7
different in 2005 and 2006; 12 YES TWELVE different in 2007(now adding
Chinese year animals); 11 different in 2008 ; 8 different in 2009;
etc.

Most of these coins are available only at a premium and can't be found
in circulation. I am about to give up trying to keep my collection
complete. It reminds me of what the US Postal Service did to kill
stamp collecting. Kill the golden goose indeed!

While I feel that the RCM has gone to the well too often with their various NCLT
coins and other sets, they apparently are still finding a market for them, as
the RCM keeps making a profit as a Crown Corporation.

Usually aftermarket prices for RCM products goes down, esp. the following year.
Very rarely the RCM issues a coin that actually goes up in value but IMO, buying
