I've been slowly putting together a set of Ike dollars.
Finding coins in nice condition is harder than it would seem, especially the
special silver clad issues.
Many of the coins have bad spotting, ugly toning or weak strikes.
Finding nice clad circulation examples in MS65 or above is challenging.
I've examined dozens, if not scores, of certified Ike dollars and find that most
of them are ugly and/or over-graded.
OTOH I've seen some very nice examples that have a light golden toning that seem
peculiar to the series (or maybe clad coins in general).
I just got a 1974P NGC MS65 and it's absolutely gorgeous - golden toning all
over with some sapphire blue/rainbow toning on the reverse edges.
I'm in no rush to complete the set, being content to get a nice example from
time to time.

Your 1974 sounds nice. I'm a sucker for rim toning.

The Ikes were not much to look at so finding an attractive one is going to be tough.

I have some certified Ike dollars which I consider "attractive" in my 20th
century US circulation coins set and I didn't find it difficult to pick
them...

Is there any particlar reason you think it's tough to find nice ones today?
I thought they were rather common and easy to find in high grades.

tnx

Nice PQ MS65 and over examples remain elusive.
Spotting, weak strikes, ugly toning and excessive bag marks are just some of
what I see on certified MS65 examples.
I'm picky and simply haven't been finding nice Ikes frequently.
