I was excited to see that the new owners do have an interest in
exclusively developed medallics. There is also a nice set of
international stamps exclusive to Franklin Mint. I have always
enjoyed collecting these types of items from Franklin Mint and had all
but given up hope.

Yes, and the good folks there will sell you some gold plated state
quarters or the even bigger bargain of a double-edge-lettered Adams
dollar for only $649!

Yes true. But I will overlook that stuff for a few of the FM classic
style products. Keep in mind it cost them very little to sell
something off the shelf like the Adam error coin. If they sell a few
then they are happy. There is a lot more risk in designing and
developing a medal...so I am glad to see it. Won't be as good as when
FM minted in-house but interesting nontheless.

Not as bad looking as I expected it to be, not as "Disneyfied" either.

IMO the once-proud name of the Franklin Mint is now ruined beyond
redemption.
They are a schlock outfit, doing infomercials to sell garbage to an
unsuspecting public.
And shame on Jay Johnson for lending his name to their efforts!

I tend to agree. But I will put up with that stuff to see more of the
traditional stuff. FM even did a sterling silver Corvette last
year...

...Thats a very noble product much like one would have seen from
Franklin Mint in the 70's. But you are right FM used to be elegant
about everything it did. They also employeed the largest creative
staff in the world. Single targeted mailings that were very well-done
were used to advertise each individual product. Franklin Mint was a
large scale Tiffany's that sold pop culture items.

Ugly looking overpriced crap.
How long have you been doing PR for FM?

The great Franklin Mint to which you referred to in a previous post
did tons of sterling silver non-coin products including sculpts. The
Corvette is exactly in that same genre of products. Cars have always
been a topic FM has commemorated.

The colorized coins...etc are Morgan Mint carry-over products...not FM
developed. They are tacky.

I have always been an avid Private Mint collector...my post on here go
back as far as 1995 on such topics.

Except that the Corvette you linked to was ugly, poorly sculpted and out
of proportion.

They are using some existing 1981 program tooling to create a new
product...http://www.franklinmint.com/product1.aspx?

Yeah, no collector value, but I am a fan of the show. :) I will have
to check eBay, etc. first though to see if I can get them for less.

The new stuff rarely shows up on Ebay with the exception of the model
cars because so few are made and the advertising reach is not what it
used to be at FM right now.

I did find one set of the Lucy coins on eBay, but the seller wanted
$25. So for $10 + $3 shipping, getting them new from the Franklin
Mint was the best deal. And now I'll be on thier mailing list. :)

I am curious to know how they look and how they are packaged so please
post when received. I am not the biggest fan of colorized circulating
coins...but I did get the John Wayne set they issued recently. The
half-dollars were colorized with images from a former Franklin Mint
plate series for John Wayne...very creative use of existing artwork.

Personally I would like to see Franklin Mint bring back the enammelled
ingots and medals...like the car insignias, train logos etc. These
were actually struck in silver with a sculpted design then hand
enammelled.
