Recently bought a PCGS AU53, 1838 reeded edge half dollar,from a large
on-line dealer. But upon examination the edge looks like no reeded edge I
have ever seen. It looks like it was turned in a lathe, and there are what
looks like small Chinese characters evenly spaces at about what would be
coarse reed spacing. The rim does not match the condition of the rest of the
coin. Have tried to find a picture of early reeded edges, but have had no
luck. Are there any around ?
