Hi,
How can you tell if a Trade Dollar is authentic. I bought mine on Ebay
7 years ago. It is a 1876s Trade Dollar. It appears to be in good
condition. Thanks in advance.

Best way to tell is to weigh it.

It should weigh 27.2 Grams.

If you bought it from a seller in China it's a fake. Billy

Many good sellers from China please buyers.
This is unfair to blame the bad behavior of the whole country's minority

Please post a link to one genuine old coin or antiquity from a seller in
China and for each one there will be hundreds of fake items.

Buying from a seller in China is not worth the risk, the most common MO is
to sell a fake item at a "bargain" price and then charge a huge amount for
postage. Billy

**********

I recently saw just one seller from China with 686 fakes offered for
sale.
They were of course marked "replica" but there is little doubt that
such
pieces can be obtained without the marking.

As far as I am concerned anything from China is a fake unless proven
otherwise.

This is without doubt the best option to take. Billy

.. and toxic. Anyone want to take up a collection, buy a bunch of
"replicas" and have them analyzed? We'll have a give-away on who can
guess closest to the actual average % lead content. :)

There ARE reliable sellers from China, such as John Bull, but the
likelihood that coins from China on Ebay are fake is close to 100%.
