Historical artifact smugglers arrested
ANKARA Undercover gendarmes posing as buyers arrested
two men selling stolen historical artifacts on Tuesday.
The gendarmerie was informed that Bülent B. and
Savas A. were trying to sell excavated artifacts.
Gendarmes posing as buyers met with the smugglers in
Ankara and arrested them after completing the
transaction. The gendarmes seized 100 silver coins
believed to date from the Byzantine period, two belt
buckles, one bracelet and 19 copper and bronze items.
