The following predictions are worth exactly the price which you have
just paid me to see them:
Au - High: $1675.; Low: $1,200. (probably during first two months of
year); End: $1,675. Gold exhibits steadily ascending price action
through the end of 2011 after some early in the year slippage.
Ag - High: $62; Low $20; End $50+. Silver will be a financial and
political football all year long in 2011. Volatile. None of the Big
Boys will play by the rules in this commodity.
Guard your gold at all times. Speculate with silver, though you
should never dispose of 100% of your holdings.
I guess that the British pound will be 15% cheaper in USD terms in a
just a few months. Cashing in some silver might to go to England
might be a good move.
I'm planning on $5 per gallon gasoline this summer/fall too.

Regarding gasoline prices, on my holiday trip westward I found your prices
in IL to be cheaper than back here in VA but higher than in CO. I was
surprised to find $2.71 gasoline in Vail while Denver was a 5 to 10¢ more.
I would have expected a lot more gouging in the resort areas.
I could never bear to cash in my silver for a trip to Europe or England.
Memories are nice, but I'd feel more comfortable with a stash of bullion in
the bank. I'd probably remember cashing in that silver more than I would
the trip. The Midas in me, I suppose.
Gasoline prices have acted a bit oddly here in Springfield as crude
oil hit the $90 mark. Usually we get quick price swings of up 21 to
23 cents on a Wednesday or Thursday, followed by ten days of price
declines totaling about 20 cents (thus, there is a slight upwards
cumulative bias over the course of several months). The last four or
five days, we went up 23 cents then up 10 cents more. Price was
$3.139 on 1/1/11 and $3.099 tonight.
As for the silver versus travel remember: YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU.
You gotta live a little here. If you have the stuff when you die,
there will be people trying to figure out how to get your stuff for
themselves before your heinie is even stuffed into your coffin.
I make this admonition in an entirely friendly way. If you made it,
you ought to enjoy it (whatever your "it" happens to be).
I like travel and I like England. You can get silver anytime.

_____________
Although I agree with your point, one certainly CAN take "it" with one if
one choses to. But then with me that would put the kibosh on my cremation
ideas. Imagine mixing one's ashes in with a stack of hundred ounce ingots!
On the other hand, I'd have to hire a guard to deploy over my plot to keep
any plundering heirs away.
I've already been to many places around the world, both popular and remote,
and sort of welcomed the break once I retired. I would like to hit a couple
more places, but my wife isn't up to any major commercial travel anymore.
I've collected and accumulated "stuff" since I was a kid and still have much
of it. I've always been a hoarder and I already have more than my share of
travel memories. I'm resigned to the liklihood that I will enjoy my stuff
until the end and that most will not have been disposed of by the time I go.
I wouldn't feel that much different whether I sold it or envisioned some
non-collector relative doing so. My luck, the second time around I'll come
back as a worm.
I too hope to have most of my junque 'til the bitter end. I will
gladly leave the junque to my heirs, with the caveat that they will
have to clean up all the incredible mess that the good stuff is
jumbled with.
But at 51, I'm not done with the traveling. Right now, child's
tuition competes strong with travel however.

Maybe that's where that silver can come in handy. If assuming a loan or
selling accumulated bullion were the only two options for tuition, which
would you choose? I'm glad I don't have to make that choice.
I can probably swing it all from cash flow. If selling the silver
would result in a large taxable gain, I could see pledging the silver
for a loan as much better than a sale. Not every banker will do that,
however.
oly
Ooo, let me try!
Gold $900/oz
Silver $22/oz

Wow. I just remember that ol' Fearless didn't show up for the dive (making
some trouble for our hero)... Are you giving some kind of hint with the
nom de plume?

Hey, I sent old Bugs a telegram. Best I could do in the
circumstances.
Bugs could handle Old Yosemite Sam better than me anyhoots!!!
