Too bad England does not have a Mutilated Currency division that would
do the work for him. At least I am assuming there is not one.

I saw a photo of the banknote pieces mentioned above and they appeared
to be in fairly large chunks, so I don't think it would be too difficult
to piece them together.

Hmmm ... Would they also need enough design with each number to identify
the denomination and country of origin?

(I read an article years and years ago about how meticulous and skilful
these guys are. They could take a wad of charred notes, say from a
cooked cash box, and separate each extremely delicate charcoal wafer,
to establish the value of the notes.)

IIRC, the US Treasury Department will redeem mutilated currency if
more that 50% of each bill is present. No serial numbers are
necessary. Then again, I could be wrong. It has happened before.
