Let's hope they give first priority to standing subscription orders from
those of us who have faithfully contributed the seignorage mark-up to the
Treasury for lo these many years.

Nah, these things will all be sold to the happy Germans who can pay in
Euros - the American hoi polloi with paper dollars will be SOL.

My skepticism over the Mint's ability to deliver on its various obligations
makes this cynical scenario not as comfortably far out of the realm of
possibility as I would like it to be. Say it ain't so, o! :-)

OTOH, for the record, the Mint won't even be getting paper dollars from me.
All they will receive is a few numbers in an electronic message describing
the electronic record of an electronic transaction carried out over the
electronic systems of the Internet, using a piece of plastic the size and
shape of a credit card (because it is one, duh) tied to an electronic
account in my name that holds nothing more than some electronic numbers in
my bank's computer memory. Regardless of the Mint's large mark-up in
nominal fiat dollars, in exchange I will get several actual, physical pieces
of precious, shiny, almost pure silver.
