The prices are amazing, don't miss lot number 141 estimated at £6,000 to
£8,000, the selling price is so high I wonder if it's a misprint. Billy
The Russian economy is booming and the new wealthy are looking for
artifacts of their heritage to
spend money on.
The Russian economy was booming when oil was $140 barrel and platinum
was $2,000. Very few places have felt the recent commodities downturn
like Russia.
OTOH, I suppose that there are still some Russian oligarchs
comfortably situated in London.
Years ago, I bought dozens and dozens of nice Catherine II five
kopecks and still have them. These don't seem to be what is bring the
big $$$. They are very nice coins though.

Just a lot of uninformed low intellect Russians overspending on junk.
I doubt that our doubtful intellect collectors of U.S.coins could
readily justify the prices frequently paid for trivial, modern, mass
produced U.S. minor coins. At least a lot of these Russian coins and
medals in this auction have significant value as scarce historical
artifacts.
Hey, I'd really like to own a presentable coin or medal of Peter the
Great. I guess that I should add that to my written want list.
