THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
The unsolved January theft of a large number of coins from a
Brink's Inc. building has prompted investigators to release
surveillance pictures of four vehicles that were seen in
the area on the night of the crime.
The FBI and Columbus police are pursuing leads in the
break-in at the Brink's building at 1362 Essex Ave., west
of I-71 and south of 11th Avenue near the state fairgrounds.
The overnight burglary was discovered when employees
arrived at work on the morning of Jan. 18. A $52,000 reward
is being offered for information that leads to the
identification and arrest of the burglars.
The newly released surveillance pictures were uncovered by
investigators who canvassed other area businesses for
images from their security systems.
None of the vehicles may have been involved in the theft,
but investigators hope to speak with the owners to see
whether they saw anything amiss that night.
The vehicles appear to be a two-tone Chevrolet Suburban
or Yukon XL, an older Chevrolet S-10 pickup, a Honda
Accord or Toyota Camry, and a Scion.
Investigators have not released many details about the
crime, including how much the roughly 6,000 pounds of
missing half-dollar and dollar coins are worth.
Estimates based on that weight put the loss at more
than $100,000.
According to police, the burglars cut a hole in the
roof of the building to get inside.

Half and dollar coins, 6000 lbs ? Even Brinks would not have that many of
those denominations !
