For the last 3 or 4 years I have had no problem reading and posting
here. Now my isp, AT&T, is dropping support for newsgroups.
I am looking for suggestions as to how to keep being able to use this
group. It would also be nice to again have access to binary groups which
AT&T dropped about a year ago.
If it matters I am using an iMac running OS 10.5.7 and have a DSL
connection.
Thanks, Bruce

I went from AT@T to "free.teranews.com" a few months ago and have had no
problems with set up or connections.....

I also have had no problems with hitting their limited daily download
limit. They support binaries and have a good retention time... RCC
currently has 154,068 active messages going back to 6/10/2005. ABPN only
goes back to 11/12/2005 with 56 messages...

I am using Motzarella and it is great. No binaries, though.

I've happily used Gradwell for some time. It's low price, but no
binaries.
They offer lots of other services too (way above my head) that might
perhaps be of interest ...

Thanks for the information. It looks like I will give free.teranews.com
a try.
Always like something that has "free" in it!

There is always http://groups.google.com which I use.

A couple of years ago, Earthlink outsourced Usenet to Supernews, and
it never worked for many Earthlink
customers in areas where Earthlink resells the local phone company's
DSL service. Even with my valid
Earthlink username and password, I get

Error reported by Server: 502 Permission Denied-Service restricted to
EarthLink member networks

The only solution is to pay Earthlink an additional $10 a month for a
fixed IP address, which they
would then add to Supernews' allow list.

Probably because you are too cheap or too dumb to get a decent news
server.

You could use Google groups. It is also free, but it has no filters
that I know of.

There are add-on filters for IE, but Bob Finnan constantly nymshifts,
thus forcing people to see his vile posts.

So Francine, how about explaining why you have been constantly suspended
and had your auctions cancelled by eBay?
While you are at it, explain why you have no current auctions on eBay.
Were you suspended yet again or have they banned you for life?
Would you also care to explain the allegations of child molestation that
have dogged you on Usenet?
How about the repeated charges of sock-puppetry?

When you respond to newsgroup trolls, you aren't "fighting the good fight"
you are encouraging them to continue baiting you with post after post after
post. You're not defending anything, you're not standing up for yourself,
you're not changing anyone's mind. It is a futile struggle with
people who don't actually care at all about numismatics nor do they quite
probably,
believe most of what they are posting in the first place. Their entire
purpose
is to get people upset enough that they respond.

Every time you respond to a troll, you make the mistaken assumption that
the content of any particular post means something to them. They have no
vested interest in anything they're posting. They are only posting to get
people upset enough so that they will respond. That is the only purpose
to their posting. Therefore, every time you respond, you are giving them
exactly what they want. I repeat, you are not teaching them anything, you
are not defending anything, you are not standing up for anything, you are
simply giving them exactly what they wanted when they came to the
newsgroup. You are fulfilling their purpose. You validate their
existance. Each post you send in response to a troll is an approval of
their antics. It's a postive stroke.

I, personally, am utterly opposed to giving any sort of positive stroke to
trolls. Period. Ignoring them is the only way to keep from doing exactly
what they want. I refuse to be manipulated like that. This is not at all
like the situation where you stand up for yourself when some bully in real
life starts hounding you. These people are not hounding you about
us about your coins, they are trying to get us to respond by saying things
calculated to get us to respond.
