NYC Man Gets 6 Months for Meter Theft
NEW YORK (AP) -- A New York City man has been sentenced
to six months in jail for using homemade keys to break
into and swipe about $1,800 in coins from parking meters.
Arthur Henderson was ordered to repay the city the money
he had taken from the meters during his sentencing Tuesday
in Bronx Supreme Court.
The city Department of Investigation says the 38-year-old
broke into parking meters in June and July 2008. He pleaded
guilty earlier this month to petit larceny and grand larceny.
..
Back when we were kids we didn't need to make a homemade key for the
parking meters, we had the real thing!
Wow, he only had to return the money that was taken during sentencing?
Amazing he would think to try stealing coins during sentencing.
Yeah, if his haul just during sentencing was $1,800 (must have been
the court house parking lot)just imagine what he took in while on his
own time. That's a pretty risky way to fill in your coin boards,
though.
Read just about any newspaper and you'll find gaffes like that, even
in the headlines. Most journalism publications have a feature section
illustrating some real howlers, far worse than this one.
