When I was reading the story below, I remember
witnessing a man being arrested for riding his
bicycle while drunk. He left a bar, and while
riding his bicycle fell down in view of me and
the police nearby. I never saw the police until
he seem to come out of thin air. He was parked
in area of the mall not lighted up. At the time
I was not aware that they can arrest you for
riding your bicycle intoxicated.
The rider fell hard on the ground. I am sure
he did not feel a thing until the next day.
Wonder what is "Kay" wine of choice in the story
below? :)

A Napa woman was arrested Friday after police found
her in possession of stolen coins.
On Wednesday at 10:13 p.m., officers stopped Koula
"Kay" Sotrias, 46, for a bicycle violation on the
800 block of Lincoln Avenue.
Sotiras is on probation in Napa County, so Napa
police searched her purse, police said.
They found several unusual coins and checked records
to see if they had been reported stolen. Officers
were unable to confirm if they were, so they kept
the coins and released Sotiras, police said.
Thursday, they confirmed that they were stolen and
arrested Sotiras at about 7 p.m.
She was booked on suspicion of possession of stolen
property and violation of probation at the Napa
County Department of Corrections.

In possession of "unusual coins" and riding a bicycle drunk. Sounds
like a case of serious alcoholism. My ex-wife's grandfather was like
that. He once stole my ex-son-in-law's proof set (early 1970s),
busted it open and spent the coins on booze at a local bar. Since it
was darker inside, the bartender didn't notice anything unusual about
the coins. Lost to circulation unless a coin collector pulled them.

When I lived in Jacksonville, IL (1989-1995) there was a "White Hen
Pantry" C-store where I got an unusual number of circulated "S"
mintmarked proof coins. Seems like I got five to seven of them in a
short period of time. The C-store was on the edge of the "bad part"
of JAX, a town that was hardly big enough to sport a "bad part", then
or now. That C-store is long defunct, however.
Napa (a nice place but with some Hispanic Gang riff-raff, it appears)
might have more educated cops than some places, but I wonder what the
average cop mind would consider an "unusual" coin. Could have been a
roll of American Samoa quarters or something like that, dontcha
know???

I don't know if it is the recession driving out saved money or what but I got an
old style (1980s that it) $20 bill in change today and it was in pretty good
shape.
Haven't gotten one of those in any condition for several years.

Why are you assuming that she was an alcoholic, or even that alcohol was involved at
all? There was nothing in the article to indicate that, only that she was stopped
for a "bicycle violation".

I don't know about Napa, but around here, a person in their mid-40's
riding a bike at 10:30 at night has probably lost their driver's
license for some reason--most likely a DUI.
