JAM
OTAY JAM, you've maybe yes, maybe no, heard of the "Liberty Coin"
scheme.
This fellow used to strike souvenir bronze crap in Hawaii for many
years. "Hawaiian Mint".
Then, when silver was much cheaper than today, he got in the habit of
striking "coins" with ten "dollar" and later "twenty" dollar
denominations. He had some "Liberty" heads on the coins faintly
reminiscent of America's historic coinage.
Finally, he issued his own paper money. Looked one hell of a lot like
old time Tax Refund Checks.
He had an elaborate distribution network, including especially a Mr.
David Gillie, a brain-damaged restauranteur up in Michigan.
It was all over the wires earlier today that this Von fellow was
FINALLY convicted of counterfeiting. For some reason, Coin World
considers this a "cause celebre".
IMHO, Von N-J (Nut-Job) had it coming and they need to throw the book
at him come sentencing time.
Next, they need to go after Dave Gillie.
The moral of the story is that you can make and sell generic silver
rounds until your ass-hole bleeds; but put a "dollar" denomination on
them and it's a whole different ball game.
oly
Ron Paul has introduced legislation which would reaffirm the legality
of private issue currency.
What's the point?

Yeah well those coins hold more value than that toilet paper currency
they're passing off as dollars nowadays...
